The
Natlian culture is the biggest stateless culture in
Frasfu. It used to be
Mandor's dominant culture, which eventually started to push against it to embrace the
Star Rites,
Nyirnia's religion. The Natlian culture is currently dominating the
Principality of Ahualco, and is still very present in Mandor.
History
The culture's recent history starts when the
Empire of Yeoheung conquered the southern lands of Mandor, which at that time was still fully Natlian. Yeoheung followed Pyeonic traditions, but when they conquered the
Dhraho Peninsula they brought the Natlian culture with them.
Roughly at the same time, Mandor signed a treaty with the
Grand Duchy of Nyirnia. Nyirnia would lend its strength to Mandor to defend its border if Mandor accepted Nyirnia's religion and influence. Afraid of Yeoheung's ever-growing power, Mandor declared the Star Rites their official religion and Nyirnian their official language. The Natlian culture was not made illegal, but without government support, it started to weaken.
Some years passed, and the
Dhrahese people, both
sadamir and
falid, finally took back their lands from the Yeoheung emperor. And while they were quick to reject Pyeonic traditions, the Natlian culture had already grown in the east of the Peninsula.
Currently, the Natlian culture is not considered official in the
Principality of Ahualco, even though it dominates most of its territory. Many people consider that only Dhrahese should be the official one, as it was the original culture before Yeoheung's invasion. The Natlian sadamir acknowledge that this is not the original sadamir culture, but are quick to point out that they should be free to choose their own values and beliefs.
Cultural values
The Natlian people value individual freedom over anything else. The way they see it, everyone should be allowed to live their life as they wish —even if this includes crime.
Contact with Nyirnian and Pyeonic cultures have had a huge influence on the Natlian people. Many Natlians believe in Seven Angels, who watch them from the stars and who wait for them after their deaths. This is a clear influence from the
Seven Faiths and the
Star Rites.
Naming traditions
Natlians have a single proper name, chosen by their parents, and use their mother's name as a surname. They are classified by gender (masculine and feminine) but this distinction is based on tradition alone. These are some examples:
