ķęķ

Beneath the tournament city of Nezhgub, in the doomuez, there are hundreds of mechanical apparatuses are coated or filled with a thick, viscous substance that helps lubricate the internal interactions of the parts. Known as ķęķ by the Goblins who maintain the machinery, it is not known how the substance is created. Derogus, the mad engineer who runs the doomuez, is reluctant to share anything and, in fact, very few people even know about the doomuez. The mechanical properties of this oily material make it ideal for lubricating the machine parts that fill the doomuez.

While the doomuez is not well know, the vents into Nezhgub from below are quite well known. They often have steam and occasionally noxious gases emanating from them. And even if there's nothing visible, the smell is quite unique. There are hints of sweat and urine in the odor, but most prominent is a unusually sharp cinnamon smell. This odor is from the ķęķ used in the multitudes of machinery below.

Properties

Material Characteristics

Ķęķ is a highly viscous, oily substance. It is very slick to the touch. It is barely translucent dark brown, nearly black, with swirls of a sickly bright green color throughout.

Perhaps the most noticeable characteristic of ķęķ is the odor. It is readily sensed even by nasally congested people from 30m or more away. Up close it is overpowering. The best description thus far came from an anonymous individual who had the misfortune of becoming lost amongst the machinery of the doomuez.

I couldn't help but smell it. It was a very sharp cinnamon smell...as if someone had crossbred cinnamon with hot peppers, pressed the essence out, soaked the dirty rags the goblins call clothing in it, put them in an uncleaned latrine for a week, then squeezed out whatever was left.

Origin & Source

The details of the creation of ķęķ is known only to Derogus. However, a handful of people have learned that it is made in part from the daily secretions of the goblins—primarily urine, sweat, and sebum (oil from the skin). While not confirmed, the same people generally believe fat rendered from deceased goblins is also used.
