The Spirit Lanterns

Lanterns of old, portals and gates of the traditional land

  • Spirit lanterns can be found on old rickety and crumbling mountain paths
  • They can be found nestled into the wildes of the Mountains that dot the land itself
  • Some are even found submerged in old rivers, or sunken low into boglands
  • It takes a specific type of proposition, one that requires you to make peace and link with the Ferry Man, an ancient entity, often reverred as a Kami, or a God.
Write about a unique method for mass transportation in a hostile environment. There are bogs, swamps, and marshes. which certain areas require a specific type of transportation. Peppered across the world there are lanterns, portals that one can use for travel, and for a specific cost of ones energy you can travel from north to south in minutes.
  • Lanterns were widly used to teleport certain beings across the harsh mountainous landscapes that dot the world itself. Oftentimes, one would go up the mountain steps and proposition the "Ferry Man," a type of Kami(spirit) that lives in the Lantern. This ferry man would link himself to your energies, and you would glide across the Spirit bridge to your destination, this was often a River or a waterfall in more Wilder lands, in fact, there is a river that is beleived to have connections to all the five realms.
  • These lanterns also acted as guides to wayward Spirits, leading them to where they all needed to go, Many lanterns were know as the first lacrimes, and often the energies of the magical inertia were harnessed, creating Spirit tubes that connected from one place to the other, these types of lanterns fell out of fashion in the 1st century after the war.
  • When technology began to develop, the spirit lanterns on the old mountain paths became dormant and The Ferry Man became a symbol of Protection, rather than guidence. THe lanterns were soon rediscovered by archaeologists and scholars few people now know of their true purpose. they just think its an old relic from a long time ago, however, many Clignes men who are adept in the ancient art of Arcanescience know what they truly are, and some still use them for their intended purpose. Many clignesmen have even taken the first step into reintroducing the aspect of the ferry man in the Lanterns, as this is still a big part of Clgnesman culture. Ever evolving with all of the "newer" more "modern" means of transportaion, such as cable cars, and air blimps. There is still a strong hope of spiritual revival in the Ferry man, one of kindness and new knowledge intermingling with the wisdom of old.
