Panzerkampfwagen V Ausf D
The Ausf D model of the Panther was the main production models after the initial Ausf A versions, and the aborted Ausf B and C models. The engine problems were mostly ironed out in the Ausf D model along with changes to the commander’s cupola. The hull was made up of one-piece plates with all joints stepped, mortised and welded to create a very strong and clean join. Production of the Ausf D model was carried out at MAN, Daimler-Benz, and Henschel. The Panzer Ausf D was issued in 1943 but these models were recalled for mechanical upgrades, they then saw action at the battle of Kursk with the Panzer regiments Das Reich and Leibstandarte Adolf Hitler.
