Panzerkampfwagen IV Ausf F1
Starting in April 1941 the Panzer IV F1 started to roll out of the German armaments workshops, but these were later converted into the Panzer IV Ausf F2 which featured a new welded turret design, drive sprocket and idler, wider tracks, and mounted the 75mm KwK 40 L43 gun. The resulting vehicle became known as the “Mark IV Special” when it appeared in North Africa, as the gun was more than capable of taking on current British and American tanks. The weapon also enabled the Panzer IV to compete with the Russian T-34. With the addition of the larger gun the weight of the vehicle was starting to slow it down.
