Panzerkampfwagen III Ausf G
After the Ausf F came the Panzer III Ausf G, the order for the Ausf G was placed in 1939 for 1250 vechiles - but this total was later changed to 800, as the captured and confiscated Panzer 35(t) and 38(t) vehicles boosted medium tank numbers. Plus also the captured Skoda tank works was kept in operation building the Panzer 35(t) and 38(t) vehicles.
The Panzer III Ausf G saw the introduction of a number of improvement such as a stowage bin attached to the rear of the turret, extra armour plate, and a new commanders cupola. There was even a tropical version of the Ausf G was sent to Rommel’s Afrika Korps. Early Ausf G vehicles mounted the 37mm cannon, but this was later changed in July 1940 to the 50mm KwK 38 L/42.

Armament Prior to 1940: Early production model Panzer III Aust H mounted the 37mm KwK 36 L/45 and carried 121 shells for the cannon.
Armament from 1940 Onwards: Later production models mounted the 50mm KwK 38 L/42 cannon with 99 shells stored on the vehicle.
Panzer III Ausf H: The model came after the Ausf G and saw a number of changes to the basic design such as a redesign of the rear of the turret, a stowage basket, aditional armour plates (armor DC bonus: hull front & rear +6, turret front +1), wider tracks, and changes to the running gear (sprockets, position of idler wheels, etc). Later production model Ausf H also had the 50mm KwK 38 L/60 cannon instead of the 50mm KwK 38 L/42.
