Panzerkampfwagen I Ausf F
The Panzer I Ausf F was sometimes referred to as the “Little Tiger” with its thick amour as compared to the standard Panzer I Ausf B. The original plan was to create a fast reconnaissance or light infantry tank. Manufactured by Krauss-Maffei and Daimler-Benz in 1942-43 the Panzer I Ausf F shared little in common with the standard Panzer I Ausf B design, but only a little over 30 vehicles were made before production was scrapped. The vehicles produced were initially intended for action during the invasion of Crete, but were instead sent to the Russian front for action near Leningrad. A limited number of vehicles were issued to units in Yugoslavia and Greece in 1944. Almost all vehicles were destroyed or captured on the Russian front.
