Morris 4x4 Artillery Tractor
The most successful vehicle produced by the Morris Company was the C8 Artillery Tractor known as the Quad. Issued in 1939 the Quad was a 4x4 with a distinctive beetle shape body. The vehicle had good cross country performance and could seat the gun crew of the weapon it was tasked with towing, which normally were the 18-pdr or 25-pdr howitzers. The vehicle had adequate stowage space for equipment and ammunition plus it was equipped with a 4-ton winch.
1944 Model: In 1944 a new model was introduced that was open toped with a canvas tarpaulin cover. This new vehicle was intended to tow the 17-pdr anti-tank guns or the 25-pdr howitzers. Seating was also expanded to a total of 8 including the driver. Ammunition racks were also added to the rear of the vehicle for standard British artillery shells.
