The Roost

The Roost is the mythical homeland of the crovae, spoken of in their myths. A supposed paradise, it is believed that when the crovae remove their curse and regain their flight, they will be allowed to return to the Roost.

History

According to crovae legend, the scattered people acted as the messengers of the gods. They flew across the world and large wings delivering messages on behalf of the gods. In between these flights, the crovae would gather on an island called the Roost, a veritable paradise filled with bountiful food and tall trees for perching. There were small settlements of crovae dotted across the island, although nothing approaching a centralized city. There were no other kiried folk on the island, but there were plenty of animals, especially large worms and insects that the crovae would hunt and devour. It is unclear if these large insects were real or just a product of myth, as no insect that large has ever been seen by other peoples.

One day though, the crovae conspired to commit a dire crime against the gods by stealing a sacred treasure and hiding it deep within the Roost where it could be found even by the gods. When no crovae returned the treasure, they were all punished by having their wings stripped away and being banished from the Roost, being scattered across the continent of Belkora. Now, it is every crovae's dream to find a way to expel their curse or to find their ancient homeland. It is believed that finding the treasure at the heart of the Roost and returning it to the gods will end the curse and return the crovae to their former glory as divine messengers.
