The Mad King's War

A recent war where the king of Silrioch went on a crusade to conquer all of the human lands and purge non-humans. His efforts were opposed by an alliance of different peoples and ultimately led to the dominance of The Aurous Consortium.

The Conflict

Prelude

In the years up to the war breaking out, Silrioch became an increasingly hostile nation to any people that were not humans under the watch of King Seimon Argent, starting with simple things like bias in the legal systems, increasing in severity until it reach full on government-sanctioned pogroms on non-humans. This eventually led to a failed coup by representative of those communities and knights that were concerned by their king's actions, led by one of his sons, Arwel Argent. The attempted coup failed, in a night called the Marwomab-or the Death of the Son. Soon after the Marwomab, Seimon officially formed a legion made of knights loyal specifically to him, called the Breningard, led by his eldest son, Gildas Argent. Seimon then declared his intent to bring this "purity" to the rest of the human lands and began invading its neighbor Agrotia.

Deployment

The Silrioch forces marched into Agrotia and started torching the land and committing non-human purges in their wake. Agrotia floundered to hire enough mercenaries to push back, but they were caught off-guard by the suddenness of Silrioch's attack and unable to mount a defense without a standing army. After over a year of the army's march, the Golden Blade of The Aurous Consortium came to the aid of Agrotia, leading a coalition of the Blade, mercenaries, elves from Codwyg, and Silrion rebels against King Seimon.

Battlefield

Most of the fighting took place in the Shelyb Plains within Agrotia and eventually into Silrioch, all the way up to its capital, Gidath.

The Engagement

Once the coalition formed and started fighting back against the Silrion invasion, they started pushing the knights back and reclaiming the territory stolen by Seimon's forces. After expelling the invaders, the coaltion fought through southern Silrioch, liberating the townsfolk from the Breningard, freeing those arrested for harboring non-humans or generally disagreeing with the king. The war culminated in the Battle of Gidath, a battle in the streets of the capital that ended in the death of Seimon and the ascension of his oldest surviving son, Boden III.

Outcome

The war resulted in the death of Seimon and the ascension of his son Boden, who was much more peaceful and willing to work with other nations. His first act was to lift all of the various racist laws his father created, attempting to make amends to the non-humans of Silrioch and begin paying war reparations to Agrotia.

Additionally, an important part of the Treaty of Auronim that ended the war was the creation of the Gold-Silver Bond. This program was created to ensure that Silrioch would never act up again by requiring them to send a member of the royal family to live in Auronim, the first one being Boden's youngest brother Halwynn, essentially as a hostage. In exchange, a member of one of the scion families of Auronim would live in Gidath to ensure that the Silrion royal hostage is not harmed prematurely.

Aftermath

The biggest impact of the Mad King's War is to bring the Aurous Consortium into true prominence as the heroes who defended Agrotia and had the military strength to defeat the knights of Silrioch. The Golden One leveraged this to further bolster their trade deals and launch the Consortium into the greatest political power in Belkora.
