Arsuatir

The Arsuatir, or the ancient folk, are the group of elves that live in the forest of Codwyg, holding closely to the traditions of the ancient elven kingdom of Glowar Riokt. They largely keep to themselves within their forest and work on magical research and understanding the greater world.

Culture

Culture and cultural heritage

As the most direct descendants of the ancient elven kingdom, the Glowar Riokt, the Arsuatir take a lot of pride in carrying the cultural legacy of the Glowar in themselves, however true that may be. This reverence for the past manifests in each village having records from the kingdom passed around the people as aid for their meditations. They believe that the Glowar knew the more than any other culture, and try to emulate their process for carving houses, performing manipulations, cooking, and constructing tools, among many other things. It is considered arrogant and barbaric to try and improve upon the methods of the Glowar, although many younger elves feel that this over reverence for the past is ultimately to doom their people in changing times.

Shared customary codes and values

Arsuatir elves largely value self-reflection as a method of self improvement. They rarely have close friends or tight family bonds, instead choosing to spend most of their time practicing a craft or in meditation on the forces of magic. There is also a disdain for other races as intrinsically out of sync with the larger universe, as only elves are able to natural harness arcane energy to perform manipulation. They view any source of magic like thaumaturgy or blandishment as barbaric and an unnatural twisting of the world.

Despite their general self-isolation, the Arsuatir also have a strong sense of general community. If there is a danger to the larger village or even multiple villages, the elves will band together to fight against it, even if they wouldn't do the same for a sibling or romantic partner.

Common Dress code

Arsuatir fashion is centered on plain clothes in earthy tones, generally with cloaks as a primary outer ware. They don't do much in the way of changing clothes through the seasons, as they can use magic to modify the temperature around them to always be comfortable. The one exception to this is decoration like beads, jewelry, or even colorful stitching on their clothes. The use of color outside of discrete decoration is seen as a lack of discipline and a corruption by primarily humans.

Art & Architecture

The Arsuatir construct their houses by carving around large trees. Because of this, these houses are usually, small with one or two people living in a single room. There are rumors among humans that elves create these houses using village witches, they actually abhor this form of magic and instead just search for existing tree and cut into them using either tools or magic.

Common Taboos

The elves disdain any magic other than manipulation, believing their natural form is the only true form of magic As such, they also despise esoterics, non-elves that create false souls to perform manipulation, believing that these false mages will ultimately taint the arcane energy of the world. This is part of the why the Arsuatir rarely leave the forest of Codwyg, as they think the magic of other places has been poisoned by humans.

Arsuatir also believe it is barbaric to work metal, as it considered by them to be antithetical to magic. Instead, any tool that would normally be made of metal in other cultures would instead be made of wood that is then coated in a special tree resin that protects it from chipping or getting soaked.

The greatest taboo any Arsuatir could commit though, is to try and improve one of the ancient methods of the Glowar. This is considered a folly on the level of the barbaric humans and is possible grounds for banishment from the forest.

Ideals

Beauty Ideals

Arsuatir elves tend to ignore the physical beauty of their bodies, but rather ornamental decorations placed both on their clothing and their physical bodies. One of the most common forms of decoration is piercing their long ears with small, dangling trinkets of various colors. The most popular styles of decoration are glass or stone, colored to match common flowers. Any coloring deemed to be unnatural, only possible using foreign dyes are considered garish and unsightly.

Gender Ideals

The elves of Codwyg have very little difference in gender divisions, with most elves caring little about their sexual differences outside of reproduction. The fact that other cultures divide their people into two populations based on a relatively arbitrary factor is considered barbaric to the Arsuatir and a sign of moral deficiency.
