Trapweed (trap-wēd)

Basic Information

Anatomy

Trapweed is a vine, roughly 8mm thick. which can reach lengths of up to 30 feet. It typically wraps itself around loose stones and trees to hold it in place and has large leaves along the side of the vine which can fold out.

Genetics and Reproduction

Trapweed grows flowers in the spring, which sends pollen all across Beland to create new trapweeds.

Growth Rate & Stages

Trapweed takes only a week to reach maturity and has a lifespan of 10 years, which makes them so difficult to get rid of. Where there's one trapweed, there's almost always more.

Ecology and Habitats

Trapweed prefers cooler climates, and hunts small animals and insects there, helping the vermin problem. However, it also kills all small life in the area and does not discriminate against the life that is helpful to the environment, such as bees.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Trapweed is a predatory plant, with it ensnaring any small animals nearby. It has also been rumoured that people who get entangled in the vine suffer serious acid burns from the leaves dissolving small animals, but this has not been confirmed due to a lack of government funding in the ecology sector.

Biological Cycle

Trapweed does not get affected by seasons and can withstand the cold northern winters with ease.

Additional Information

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Trapweed is found mainly in colder areas, and also in the Forests of Denvar, especially in the northern areas. They typically use these colder temperatures to catch slower and weaker prey.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Trapweed, like most other plants, uses photoreceptors to sense light. It does, however, also use trigger hairs which are very thin and long, and are on the leaves to sense prey.
