Flaming Steep (Flae-MiNG Steep)

Geography

Flaming Steep is a mountain in Blazing Eidge, with dozens of hot springs along it's vertices. It gets its name from from the heavy mist and steam that hangs around the mountain, making it look like the mountain is on fire. Flaming Steep is the easternmost mountain of Blazing Ridge, and is along the Misty Marine. Scientists believe that Flaming Steep contributes further to the mist over the sea.

Ecosystem

Flaming Steep has one of the most peculiar ecosystems of Blazing Ridge, with the majority of the ecosystem being composed of lizards and fish. There are no birds in Flaming Steep, because of the heavy steam over and around the mountain. There is also a unique characteristic of the mountain- all of the wildlife, such as the lizards, are completely fine with being touched by humans. Tourists have been known to touch and pet these animals, with no fear on the animal's part. However, the wildlife board of Stabaki suggests not doing this, because they are often drenched with boiling water. Most of these animals have adapted to these hot pools, and even thrive in them.

Ecosystem Cycles

Flaming Steep is one of the mountains exempt from seasons, with other notable mountains being autumn's summit and Jackson's volcano. Flaming Steep is at a humid 102 degrees Fahrenheit year-round, which most tourists find unbearable after several hours.

Localized Phenomena

Flaming Steep experiences Mountain Shifts, just like the rest of Blazing Ridge. Flaming Steep does not experience them as severely, and the mountain typically shifts by just a few feet. These shifts can still cause tremendous problems, however- springs getting parts of pools shifted, and spilling down the mountain. Ecosystems being broke apart and getting killed by the rumbling. Or even parts of the mountain getting shifted and entire chunks crumbling.

Climate

The climate of flaming steep stays at around 120 degrees Fahrenheit year-round, with heavy steam and mist hanging in the air from the boiling pools. Because of this steam, it rains extremely often around flaming steep, with it coming down in think sheets for hours on end.

Fauna & Flora

There are several unique organisms of flaming steep such as:
  • Calida Salamanders
The Calida Salamander is a small amphibian found in or near the hot springs of flaming steep. They have incredibly heat-resistant skin, allowing them to withstand the extreme temperatures of the springs. They eat insects, worms, and ignis beetle eggs. They are small, and roughly five inches long. They are a soft red, with bright orange markings running across their back and head.
  • Fervent Guppy
The Fervent Guppy is a tiny fish residing in the hot springs of flaming steep, with extraordinarily heat-resistant scales and self-cooling temperatures, which enables them to survive the boiling water. They eat fireweed, a type of water plant adapted to the boiling temperatures. They are roughly 3 inches long, and are a dim black with yellow markings across their fins.
  • Acribus Turtle
The Acribus Turtle is an average sized turtle which lives near the hot springs of flaming steep. They cannot live in the boiling water, but go into small cooled pools around the springs. They eat fireweed which comes out of the ponds during mountain shifts, or ignis beetles. They are around 8 inches long, with yellow and orange markings along their soft shells.

Natural Resources

Flaming Steep is rich in minerals and gemstones, which Stabaki and Edor commonly mine for profits. Some of the gemstones include- Topaz, Diamonds, Tanzanite, Tempurite, Zircon, and Apatite. Flaming Steep has these gemstones scattered around, and the ignis beetles feed off of them. The people of Stabaki and Edor also import freshwater from the springs of Flaming Steep, and is marketed by some corporations as "Firewater." (Namely Ridgerton."

Tourism

Flaming Steep experiences a large influx of tourists, to the dismay of the Wildlife Board of Stabaki. Tourists normally come onto the mountain during the winter, so that the hot springs feel more comfortable.
