Dentis (Dehn-tee)
Basic Information
Anatomy
Dentis is a type of hard tuber found exclusively in the Ivory Fields, and they appear to be a plant with a single horn-shaped stem, with small spikes covering the stem for safety. Scientists theorize that these spikes are its version of leaves, and how it obtains sunlight. Underground is an oblong vegetable with roots extending out from the bottom.
Genetics and Reproduction
Dentis reproduce through their taproot, which contains 4-5 seeds which farmers of the Ivory Fields take extra care to harvest, because of their low numbers.
Growth Rate & Stages
Dentis are a seasonal plant, and take 3-4 months to harvest. When first planted, Dentis extends its roots out through the bottom of its seed and starts extending the stem upwards. About a month into its growth, the stem protrudes 5-6 inches out from the ground, and the roots have finished growing. Around three months is when the fruit is edible but is still growing to its full size.
Ecology and Habitats
Dentis thrive in the Ivory Fields and are found exclusively there. Due to their shallow roots, and the high water table of the Ivory Fields, Dentis especially grow there because of the easy access to water and sunlight.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Dentis absorbs water from the earth and sunlight from its spikes. It stores it's nutrients in it's vegetable core, which makes it so healthy.
Biological Cycle
Due to the lack of seasons in the Ivory Fields, Dentis are able to grow year-round without trouble.
Behaviour
Dentis is a plant, and does not have any psychology or behavioral features.
Additional Information
Uses, Products & Exploitation
The stem of the dentis is commonly grounded up into Cerussa Spice, which is commonly used throughout Kiamaco and Mystdale especially. The vegetable dentis is a delicacy of almost all of Beland, and has a taste described as a mix of potatoes and corn, with a bit of tang.
Geographic Origin and Distribution
Dentis are found exclusively in the Ivory Fields and are therefore grown by farmers of the Ivory Fields solely.
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
The Dentis, like other plants, has photoreceptors that allow it to sense light through its stem.
