NEMRIX

The Neonatal Environmental Mutation Repression Injection, or NEMRIX, was a gene-editing serum administered to pregnant individuals to suppress the effects of environmental or chemically induced birth defects. The serum introduced a stabilizing agent to protect unborn children from deformities such as extra limbs, altered nervous systems, underdeveloped organs, and other similar problems. NEMRIX was researched and developed by the pharmaceutical company, Averex, from 2055 to their dissolution in 2062. It was created for at-risk populations living near or within contaminated areas of the world.   The ingredients of NEMRIX included hormones to regulate cortisol and estrogen levels during pregnancy to reduce the risk of stress-induced genetic anomalies. Protein folding regulators ensured that fetuses maintained healthy gene formation even in the presence of toxins. NEMRIX never made it out of its prototype phase before the company was the victim of a terrorist attack led by famed virologist Scarlet Stanislaus. The formula, as well as other valuable medicinal research, was destroyed during the bombing.   NEMRIX was often criticized as a tool for eugenics. The criticisms weren't unfounded due to Averex's reputation for prioritizing capital over compassion. Despite protests, other pharmaceutical companies would go on to make NEMRIX replicas with whatever information they could find. The Cerberus Pact, after their acquisition of Dr. Stanislaus, went on to release Embryotain. Embryotain is said to be the closest replica to NEMRIX, leading many to believe that the Cerberus Pact had some involvement in Averex's downfall. Only the citizens of the Pact or wealthy wastelanders have easy access to their serum.   Leaked documentation alleges that other variants of Embryotain exist and are tested on wastelanders without their knowledge or consent, leading to forced sterilization or increased chances of birth defects. These experiments are referred to as the "Ioseph Protocol". Embryotain is manufactured in agricultural-medical labs guarded by high-ranking members of the Cerberus Pact. Its ingredients are extracted from bioengineered floral and synthetic proteins. The finished serums are bottled in special vials meant to prevent UV degradation, as well as tampering.   Embryotain claims to reduce deformities in children by anywhere between 75 and 90%. It regulates fetal development in high-risk areas and has the unintentional side effect of preventing psychological instability in some children. Other side effects include the risk of developing fertility issues and autoimmune disorders later in life. These side effects are possible for both the child's carrier and the children themselves. Children exposed to Embryotain in utero may also suffer from stunted emotions, though this side effect is rare.   The Aegis Accord an outspoken critic of the serum and pushes the idea that Embryotain and similar technology are means of protecting "genetic purity" for the elite. Other criticisms allege that the Cerberus Pact uses Embryotain to weaken its own citizens to keep them reliant on the organization's medical resources.   Another notable NEMRIX replica is Hearthline, which is produced by the Genome Nexus in the western United States of America. Genome Nexus is a pharmaceutical company that builds their products using data harvested from captured Visionaries. Knockoff replicas of NEMRIX exist, but a majority of them are scams. Usage of them can lead to fatalities and severe deformities in children. NEMRIX and its replicas are commonly known as "bluebottles" due to their strangely vivid colors that range from periwinkle to cerulean.
