Blackmire Quarantine Zone

The Blackmire Quarantine Zone surrounds the Halcyon Isolation Facility, a hospital where the worst cases of nero-induced toxoplasmosis were sent. The isolation facility itself is a biohazard and crawling with malfunctioning Visionaries who were unable to join their kin's collective consciousness. The bots follow orders that have been twisted with time and collect various forms of life to subject them to medical experimentation. Anything that doesn't yield satisfactory results is disposed of violently.   These broken bots have been nicknamed "death doctors", as well as "stalkers" because of their habit of quietly tracking down their next patient. They've been noticed performing futile rituals after a subject's death, such as CPR and logging vitals that are no longer viable. Halcyon Isolation Facility is a scavenger's dream come true. Years of medicine and medical equipment have been left behind, making it a high-priority target for many groups of people. Due to the level of danger, scavengers are advised to travel in groups to prevent potential abductions by the Visionaries.   The hospital is also full of medical waste and toxic mold, presenting even more problems for those who risk entering it.
"It said I was stabilized. It broke my arm to 'save' me. I passed out; it's the only reason I'm still breathing."
- Anonymous on encountering a Visionary.
Blackmire Quarantine Zone was established in 2048 during the final years of the Silent Scourge pandemic. It was one of many sites that fell victim to violence at the hands of CURE bots who sought to contain the infection by any means necessary. Since then, people have left the quarantine zone in droves or died trying. During Scarlet Stanislaus's time with the Cerberus Pact, the organization dispatched a biotech field team to Blackmire to study toxoplasmosis.   They established themselves in a hidden bunker and researched whether or not nero-induced toxoplasmosis could be weaponized effectively. After an increase in Visionary activity near the isolation facility, the Cerberus Pact withdrew their team. Bunker KF-029 holds valuable research and medicine that was left behind, as well as military-grade weapons. A subway tunnel is located near the hospital and extends several towns away. The RC-5 Emergency Transit Line was utilized for emergency situations only, such as medical crises or evacuation orders.   As of now, the portion of the tunnel leading directly into Blackmire is sealed. On the other side of the collapsed tunnel is a mass grave of scourge victims, as well as the most recent victims of the Visionaries' cruelty.
"There's no peace in Blackmire, only silence."
- Graffiti, Military Checkpoint 03
The Blackmire Quarantine Zone is built near wetlands in the midwestern United States of America, somewhere in the southern portion of Wisconsin. The environment's uncomfortably humid, and much of the quarantine zone is overrun by plant life, including toxic black mold. Malaria is another threat to travelers, who are recommended to carry antimalarial medications due to the large mosquito population in the area. Toxoplasma nero is still active in Blackmire, thriving on medical waste and in stagnant sources of water.   Blackmire has power, mainly due to the emergency generators in the Halcyon Isolation Facility, which are regularly maintained by the robots within its walls. Outside of the facility, power is much more inconsistent and spontaneously reactivates the military security measures around the zone. Feral cats are rampant in Blackmire, and travelers are discouraged from interacting with them on the off-chance that they're carriers for T. nero.
"Cats don't meow in Blackmire. They speak real low, like they're whispering secrets they wish they didn't know."
