Session 140: Scallywags: Sacrifices: Family, Oath, Love
General Summary
Brimstone, with Rognur, Ollie and Nethpione, rides atop a magical and crazed boat elemental: The Horizon's Call. His former vessel shrieks for protection and from the sea. He feels the connection; he knows he make it listen. Ollie jumps forth, and Rognur dives away, finding his own vessel to man, and seemingly escaping at first. Yet, he soon sees what Brimstone does: nearest to him, Krarissa and Pemi have fallen, and within the Call and somewhat below, he hears Skiff, impossible, but not really, barking out orders to the Powder Crew, firing as they do. Enough of the Call is there to allow them to assist with this divine intervention. Additionally, six or more of the Faces Fleet come in from the north east, and they have already fired upon the destroyed docks to disable them even more, allowing escaping members of the crew to find nothing but an explosive end.
Yet, Reggie uses this chaos in the early morning hours, to sail to the docks, to take the shores seemingly again. The siege restarts, in a way, despite the dozesn of broken ships in the water. Further south, he sees, Brimstone sees both his sister's vessle, the Unshackled Horizon, breaking away from the main battle, and also being fired upon.
Young Ganoi is thrown into the water, but thankfully Rognur is able to sail close enough to pick him up. Valentha is sailing west, but to what? Brimstone then sees: Vareth's vessel is even farther west, and it must be going where? With this, and the storm of Nethpione and shadow of Ollie, Brimstone guides the Call towards its own vengeance east.
It slams into the six warships that remain of the Faces Fleet, and the remaining broken but still seaworthy vessels of the Crimson Fleet volley with cannons thereafter. With this, the vessels are destroyed in but a few minutes, but not without them also firing and destroying more vessels, but seemingly doing intensive damage to the Call itself, too. There may not be much of the boat after this fight.
He yells to Nethpione, and then he dives away. He must take advantage of Threeve's blessing to catch up to Valentha, and then to Vareth.
His speed is supernatural, and he catches up to his siblings with ease. However, on the way there, under the deep waters, with the syncopation of his own speed numbing his ears, he begins to hear his own heartbeat. It then soon echoes into a familiar version of his name. Then, he stops, and in this out of body experience, time seems frozen. This next time his name is spoken, he knows it is not his voice, but that of his deity, Tritherion. The god of freedom, asks one question: What is your oath? Bravery, Freedom, Loyalty. But to whom, your self, your friends, your crew, your people, country, world? I should not have to choose. The god gets quiet, and he closes his eyes; an empathy for Brimstone's words is quite clear by sombre looks and tears. Without opening his eyes, Tritherion warns that other deities question Brimstone's oath. But, as his Corsair, he will hold true to the think line that Brimstone must now walk with this actions.
He is released and he swims on to his sister's boat. He finds her welcome, and he learns from Valentha, and even Kevdae and others who are aboard, that they were ambushed: bait was the palace. They were then pushed back by fire and cannons to the Bay of Kings. Then hours of quiet and rest. In that time, early, they learned of the Voidshard mansion, and how they have been hiding, the followers of this queen, in this makeshift base. They were making plans to go there the next day, but Aikhon left without them, and no one has seen him in almost 16 hours. Feanger went with him, apparently, too. Now, with the distraction of the Call rising up, Vareth, Auna, Chatulkik, and Nobody the Cloud Giant Shadowkin, go for vengeance for the fallen brethren. Valentha is trying to catch up with them now. Brimstone then suggests Valentha and her crew should turn around to engage with the other crews. He will continue on with his blessing, and he will find Vareth, Aikhon, and the others and bring him back. Wait for his signal. Valentha agrees, but she and other others beg for Brimstone's saftey. He then dives back into the water, and he quickly catches up with Vareth's Night's Dream, sailed by mostly undead and the aforementioned avengers.
They take briefly about the same intents and consequences of the siege, but also how Vareth still wants the Faces vault, which was not in the palace, and to of course find Aikhon. Auna greets her lover, Brimstone, with her own tears in her eyes from her fallen sister and comrades, but Brimstone is able to inform her that Mercou will be saved; Wulfgar's divine magic will aid!
We then return back in time as Brimstone sails back to the Grey Harbor, to the noble district, and to find his brothe Aikhon.
In this time, Wulfgar spends a decent amount of time resting, and then the next day he resurrects the rest of the crew, those fallen, all but Horizon who still needs Aikhon to connect to her soul. During the day time rest, he and Ilknar get in an argument sorts, as again, Wulfgar warns Ilknar that if he is indeed the Claimant for the Throne, the king, then he must know his sacrifice, and that letting Nethpione go off is not how you protect that choice. Afterwards, Aurora comes to Ilknar and also talks of her worries of the future queen, and she is able to get convince Ilknar to come back to camp. Aurora also offers to be the sacfice if needed, but Ilnar is not willing to allow others to take that responsibility.
Orran and George hatch a plan after George helps make more biscuits and generally heal all of the patients as they rest before and after the resurrection. This plan will be to convince Threev to bypass the rolls and order of tradition that the Conduits so adamantly adhere too. However, a sacrifice must be made.
Meanwhile, Mila rests, and she givse magical aid to the fallen crew members.
Sasha and Steadfast talk, and he begins to show the yuanti the prayers of his faith to Bahumat.
Then, almost simultaneously, Sasha, Orran with George, fly up to Threev. Sasha is there, and she asks for a wish spell, or there abouts, but none are close enough according to Threev, then George and Orran convince Threev of the accomplishment of the Trial, but they need Lady Sasha's only copy of her book, and she almost loses all memory of it. WIth this, Threev blesses the group, and they make the decision to have the Hind come with them, a ward of Orran, and their speed is increased slightly because of it.
They break up most of the diamond sword to resurrect the crew: Qoc, 43, Freydis, Chogim, Mercou.
Brimstone and his dark brother Vareth, Chatulkik, Auna, and others, make there way into the city streets after the nobility's Grey Harbor. They sneak and jump through alleyways until a very tall wall, which the scale and fly over with ease. Down the main street, one so well protected with giant walls from the the siege's cannons and onslaught, they find a very large wall in front of an even larger mansion. Chatulkik scouts, and finds on the other side of the wall a bridge, and a blue humanoid body left upon its stone. A cannon from the larger Kobold hits the wall and bridge on that moment, and the group sneaks over the bridge to find Feanger recently killed. They resurrect him with an Aikhon diamond and gather before they break down the next door.
