Session 132: Scallywags: The Fleet's Fate Splits, and a Lion Roars from Beyond
General Summary
The group meets in the Brimstone's quartes, with Nethpione, George, Ollie, and Master Will with them. They must discuss Mila's fore knowledge from traveling to the northern parts of the Mainwalk, and also beyond to the Collegiate Arcanum, where she met with this Librarian and lord.
The group must decide, do they leave the Fleet to the siege and their own devices, or do they stay? The Wall and its power is being tested by the Queen and other claimants. Yet, they majority decide the power of the Wall must not be tested. Ilknar and Nethpione wish to aid the crew, but they will follow the decision to go to the Wall. Wulfgar suggested a split of the party, something to aid the siege and beyond--the Crimson Fleet will not stand alone. Mila is eager to face the Queen and stop her madness. Orran knows the queen is the focus, and Lady Sasha wishest to cut the head off.
When Sasha arrives and speaks, the group does also notice her new transformation. She is winged and more like a dragon than anything else, now. Nevertheless, the focus returns, for Sasha takes Ollie to the skies, and tests the vigilance of the queen. There is not clairvoyant eye or scrying orb in the immediate viewing them, and after those few minutes, the explosion from the Inquisitor's Sanctum ignites. Their time is up, and they must act to take advantage of whomever has caused such a fateful distraction (Kobold Kollective).
The decision is made, and they disperse to gather gear and weapons--to prepare for battles, trials and fights against a Queen and more. Mila takes some time to learn more about where they must travel to, Taeil, an ancient land of myth and dark lions, shrouded in the looming shadow of the southern most tip of the ancient wall--the land is craggy, and the water leaps and drips between chaotic streams, rivers, and waterfalls. With this, the grass grows high, and many hills and boulders create excellent cover between lagoons to the beachheads and rocky ourcroppings dispersed between grasses, hills, and the broken cracks from whence the Wall must have been first erected. Yet, Mila must know more, and understand how to specific a description of these ancient lands so that their teleportation magic does not have a mishap a send them off in a very false direction, thus, ruining the sense of momentum and timing. She casts a legend lore spell and she learns:
Claws of the Golden Lion; False Claimants Torn for their own zion. Leadership and truth-- Waters Surround It, Weapons flounder it. The Rock of the Sphinx Child.
She uses this and their own survival and investigative skills to help them narrow the magic. Before they leave, though, Mila goes below deck. She speaks to the powers and elementals within the Call's primordial engine, and she begs for it to recognize its own freedom of choice. She leaves a picture of her mother, the one who loved the stories and memories of the Horizon's Call beyond many others. The one who remembered. Mila then gives a magical power to the creature to banish itself, to free its elemental energies in order for them to return to their home plane. She then leaves, and joins the forward crew, Brimstone, Ilknar, Orran, Wulfgar, Sasha, Nethpione, Ollie, and George... they must travel north, help distract the capital reinforcements, getting the Redwing far enough north for the enemy to think they are indeed going to the Collegiate Arcanum, but they are actually teleporting, far east, over 400 miles. Taeilian Lands, the first trial awaits.
They teleport is not exact, and the find themselves under the dark shadow of the Wall, where their only option is to travel west. They soon find tracks, and evidence of a large camp. The tracks of humanoids, and then something else, a beast. The Lion? The follow onward, and they soon find tracks of the beast again, where Wulfgar sees that the beast is indeed hunting this camp. Mila now sees in the camp and other tracks behind, enough evidence to mages as well as followers of the Faces are a part of this camp. They are here with the Queen or another Claimant for the Wall's power.
They investigate more, but soon here a defiant and thunderous roar, and they run to engage. They find near the cliffed beachheads a lagoon where orcish female warriors face with a golden lion, and other Faces' knights and warriors watch on from the cliffs above, preparing ranged attacks to assist. However, they are mostly overrun, even with draconians and alchemic creations to assist them. Yet, there is also a strange undead warrior, and others. Ilknar climbs, and over the hills he sees a pair white robbed women, and they see him, and they dive below.
Meanwhile Lady Sasha slams in to the lion, and takes his prideful rock from his feet, Brimstone and Wulfgar try to convince the orcs to break from the bonds with Queen Jhusve, whom Ilknar has reasoned is in those white robes, and he teleports with Mila after them. Orran distracts other orcish leaders.
There is stalemate it would seem until the lion breaks free from Lady Sasha, and dances below, and then the strange orcish undead slams with a divine might towards Brimstone.
They fight has just begun.
