King Hugo Ironbrawn III
King Hugo Titus Ironbrawn III (a.k.a. The Wise)
King Hugo III Ironbrawn, known as “The Wise,” rules Novakuzran from Hugo City with a heavy hand and an unapologetic preference for the smaller races of the world. At 300 years old, the short, stocky dwarf king is as sharp-minded as he is stern, notorious for his hatred of humans and tallfolk—though he begrudgingly respects Dragonborn, Goliaths, and other towering races for their strength. Cruel and calculating to those who cross him but benevolent to those he favors, Hugo has stabilized his kingdom after the ruinous excess of his father, Hugo II “The Great.” His wisdom is practical rather than lofty, focused entirely on the prosperity and security of Hugo City and its non-human citizens.
Physical Description
Identifying Characteristics
Short and broad, even by dwarven standards, with a severe, weathered face. His beard is streaked with silver and tied with iron clasps. Wears heavy, rune-etched armor at all times, even in his throne room.
Special abilities

- Immense resilience due to dwarven constitution
- Expert strategist both in siegecraft and subterranean warfare.

- Black-iron plate armor embedded with defensive runes
- A scepter that doubles as a key to Hugo City’s treasury vaults.
Mental characteristics
Personal history
Raised in the shadow of his gluttonous and negligent father, Hugo II, Hugo III had little difficulty winning the people’s trust when he took the throne. Where his father indulged himself into an early grave, Hugo III worked to rebuild Novakuzren’s wealth, defenses, and internal order. Despite mellowing his family’s long-standing hatred for humans slightly, Hugo remains staunchly distrustful, allowing humans only as merchants or in unusual roles like augmented “Hunmams” or necromancers within Novakuzren’s Mortality Hospital.
Education
Received traditional dwarven royal education, including history, economics, warfare, and necromantic studies (a Novakuzren specialty). Personally tutored in statecraft by his grandfather before the latter’s passing.
Employment
Current King of Novakuzren; former advisor to his father during Hugo II’s later years.
Accomplishments & Achievements
- Stabilized Novakuzren’s economy after decades of his father’s wastefulness
- Restructured trade systems to favor dwarves, gnomes, and halflings
- Introduced the controversial but efficient “Hunmam” program to utilize human labor.
Intellectual Characteristics
Highly pragmatic and analytical, slow to speak but quick to judge, especially against those who interrupt or waste his time. Extremely calculating when weighing benefits versus risks for his kingdom.
Morality & Philosophy
He goes by the same morals his father and grandfather before him. He carries on his hatred, while mellowed out a bit from his grandfather, for humans and even offered humans a couple chances at life. Giving them the option to become "Hunmams" (augmented humans) or working as a necromancer in the Mortality Hospital . Values the prosperity of Novakuzren’s short races above all, with no interest in appeasing outsiders. Believes strength, craft, and utility are the only metrics that matter; all others are expendable.
Personality Characteristics
Motivation
To ensure Novakuzren thrives as a haven for smaller races, while keeping humans strictly subservient and useful. His legacy, unlike his father’s, is meant to be one of enduring strength and uncompromising order.
Likes & Dislikes
Likes: Dwarves, halflings, gnomes, precise craftsmanship, silence while working.
Dislikes: Humans (especially idle ones), unnecessary noise, tallfolk arrogance.
Virtues & Personality perks
Astute, deliberate, fiercely protective of Novakuzren’s favored races, unmatched in dwarven necromantic knowledge.
Vices & Personality flaws
Unforgiving, humorless, deeply prejudiced, and prone to cruelty toward those outside his favored races or who interrupt his thoughts.
Social
Reign
King of Hugo City for 120 years, succeeding his father after the latter’s death from excess. Respected and feared in equal measure, his policies have cemented Hugo City as a fortress nation for its smallfolk.
Contacts & Relations
Maintains trade with Baephios via human merchants despite his disdain, provided they bring exceptional goods. Strong alliances with gnomish and halfling enclaves across Nineveh. Politically distant from most world leaders, though he tolerates dealings with King Ronald Ambers VIII for mutual stability.
Religious Views
Devout follower of Udos, god of Time, incorporating dwarven ancestral rites into his worship. Views most other gods, especially once human ones, as irrelevant to Novakuzren’s destiny.
Wealth & Financial state
Controls Novakuzren’s rich mines and deep trade networks, accumulating immense personal and national wealth; directs most resources toward infrastructure, undead labor, and defenses.
