Bright Elves

The one who once blindly stumbled upon these rocky shores
Having no sight, but helplessly looking,
In days of old -
Your shipwrecked people
Holding on in an age of roaring turf.
But behold: their eyes have now opened.
And everything that was wise and blessed
Will be ignited by your light.
Your people searching, learning,
Knowing their creed is to lead
A sightless world from their white towers
And that their prideful will is to break the tide.
Ainith Meanne: Progress
A culture built on knowledge and the unyieldng belief in the capability of intellect to change the world, Bright Elves were one of the first to come to Badoen (although they found with considerable astonishment that Orcish people were already there). They now reside on the Eastern shores, but their fame for astronomical, planar and magical research reaches the furthest corners of Badoen.
A bright elf is raised to be aware of their own special nature. They regard themselves as guides, as sages of the world, a nation of great artists and philosophers. They strive for knowledge, beauty, and sophistication from the day they are born, bearing the weight of their creed to impact the world and change it for the better. Their ambition and sharp mind makes them awe-inspiring foes, but their belief in progress and tendency to dream big often inspires others.

Culture

Shared customary codes and values

Knowledge. A Bright Elf's life revolves around information, learning and sharing said knowledge. Their relationships are built on friendly, cultured debate and the sharing of ideas. Their institutions and their religion prioritises wisdom and a deeper understanding through intellect. Knowledge opens possibilities and changes the world. Knowledge is the shield against the dangers of ignorance, the lighthouse on a stormy sea.   Progress. The world is cyclical in that the tides and the phrases of the moon change and return, but it is ever-changing. Bright Elves believe in this change and often dedicate their lives to bring about progress: be it scientific, economical or social. Development means differing degrees and shades to everyone. Some try to create an entirely new notion in poetry, others better themselves or educate others. Some experiment with wild and dangerous spells, others take interest in gardening, or discovering new stars in the night sky.   Fair Competition. Bright Elves love to compete. They are motivated and pushed to their limits by trying to be the best, the smartest, the quickest, the most eloquent. Being so invested in their everyday races and challenges, they expect everyone to adhere to the same rules. Cheating is frowned upon amongst them, not only in academic settings, but in every area of their lives. Shortcuts are for those less capable. They believe themselves to have enough potential to win in a fair competition. It is not worth it otherwise.   Cultural Integrity. Bright Elves, though having a slight tendency to view themselves as superiour - not by birth, but by consciousness they achieved through meticulous studies - have learned to respect other cultures for what they are. During the history of Badoen, whenever the Syronian human majority was brave enough to mention assimilation of other cultures, the Eastern realm intervened. They hold the strong belief that all cultures of Badoen are capable of teaching them something new, and even through their arrogance, these people are ready to preserve that knowledge.   Temperance and Sophistication.

Historical figures

Lythenna Íl-ianne: One of the Twelve Knights of Syron, Lythenna was a mage who only joined the creed after some convincing arguments presented by Thoris Riggle. She then fought by the side of the Syronian warriors, and after their victory, she wove the spell that is infused into the stone markers that keep the creatures of the Roaring Wilds at bay.
