Barthamas, the Humble
First Priest of Syron Barthamas Mabeau
A middle-aged man standing at the edge of the room, always observing, his presence barely noticeable despite his thick frame. Barthamas Mabeau is now known to most as Barthamas, the Humble, First Priest of Syron. The name appears to be a true representation of its bearer, as the short, potbellied human has never been heard boasting. To most, it is wondrous how anyone would have noticed him, let alone appointed him First Priest of Syron.
Nevertheless, no complaint ever arose against the portly man. He is regarded as one dedicated to the Arearic Religion and his Faith in Dolocar. Even the wildest rumours remains centred around the fact that he does not shy away from Life's blessings when it comes to good food, but nothing truly blasphemous attaches to his person.
Mental characteristics
Personal history
He was born a son of a jeweller in Farozier. He proved a sickly, weak child, unlikely to live to see his first nameday. Somehow, though, he survived, and became a healthy, happy child - something seen as a blessing by his parents.
In his youth, he helped his parents with the ledgers, learned to read and write, but never truly mastered his family's craft. The family moved to Royonne when Barthamas was nine years old. There, he became intimately familiar with the legend of Thysson Aenois, the warrior priest of the Twelve. Though he never found himself wielding a weapon, he dedicated himself to the faith, just like the knight of the legends.
In his teenage years, he served in a nearby village as the right hand of the local priest. On some occasions, the previous First Priest would visit the nearby towns, villages and hamlets, and upon some of these visits, he took notice of the silent, dedicated young man who was serving Dolocar. He was famous amongst the priests of Thelodar for his piety and for his initiative when it came to organisation. Every blessing and Twelve Knights' Day he would raise founds for a good cause, mobilise the local nobles to renovate the cemetery, or prepare dinners for the poor.
His ablility to mobilise people caused the late First Priest to choose him as his successor, even though not many outside of the church of Dolocar knew about his existence.
Personality Characteristics
Motivation
He is moved mainly by his faith. He believes that it is his privilege to serve Life, and wants to show others that they can trust the divines. He wishes to spread the blessings he feels he has, bringing joy to the people around him.
In part, however, he wants to be recognised for his deeds. He wishes people to know of his efforts and to aknowledge the part he plays in bettering people's everyday lives.
Savvies & Ineptitudes
Barthamas seems to have unlimited energy when it comes to carrying out the will of Dolocar and helping others. He organises weddings, helps enemies make amends, blesses children and provides shelter for the lost, as if he needed no sleep nor rest to keep moving. He appreciates quality over quantity, and is a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to his work.
He is grateful for the simple pleasures of life, is generally jovial, and is pleasant to talk to. He is happy to help others, not expecting anything in return, but he is also willing to ask for help when he requires it. He sees the best in others.
Not many know of this, but he has a nice singing voice. However, he only hums when he thinks he is alone.
His good heart easily leads him to be guillible. He is scared to let people down, and thus goes out of his was to help, often not noticing ulteriour motives in the meantime.
Moderation is his major weakness. He has a hard time saying no - be it to a request, or to an offer. These traits would have undoubtedly made him a terrible merchant, as his father likes to emphasize.
