Uyam Trees

The land around the base of Heshi Ariko's mountain is covered in miles and miles of orchards and other farmland, interrupted by mere pockets of natural landscape. Uyam Trees make up the vast majority of the plants across this scene. It is the most ubiquitous tree in Aravun Yashelin culture. Every single part of the Uyam Tree is coveted for some purpose, be it the Uyam Fruit they eat at nearly every meal, the Uyam Wood they build their homes with, the roots they ground into paste for paint, and more applications besides.    Uyam Trees have not always dominated the landscape of Central Kotuye. Once, the landscape around Heshi Ariko was covered in miles and miles of natural landscape, interrupted by mere pockets of agriculture. In the modern era, it's hard to imagine life without them because of the painstaking labor of Aravu's farmers who domesticated these trees. Nowadays, there are a plethora of varieties of Uyam to choose from, though most of them are modern varieties. The Uyam Wastes has killed off the majority of ancient strains of Uyam Tree, but not all, and even more studies and experiments are being done to exterminate the disease once and, hopefully, for all.    Though one may expound upon the importance of the Uyam Tree to the Aravun Yashelin at length, surprisingly little has been done to study the importance of the Aravun Yashelin to the Uyam Tree. Wild varieties of the tree were rare when Heyir first discovered them, and small to boot. The Yashelin's love and care added something irrevocably crucial to its expansion. Not only do they feed on the nutritious soil that the Yashelin maintain diligently for them, they also feed on something else: their spiritual energy. The average Yashelin produces so much waste spiritual energy while they work in the fields that, over the course of the civilization, it has seeped into the very soil. The addition of spiritual energy into the nutritional mix for the Uyam Trees allows these trees to grow and produce fruit at a rate that puts their wild counterparts to shame.
