Bes Yashelin

The Bes Yashelin are an ethnic group of the Yashelin species who call the Bes Island Chain their home. They are a sub-ethnicity of the broader Kivrian Yashelin category, or Yashelin folks who left their home planet of Aravu to instead live primarily on the planet of Kivria.   Notable traits of the Bes Yashelin include, but are not limited to:
  • They live, or used to live, for a significant amount of time in the nation of Bes.
  • The majority of the Bes Yashelin are former members of the Kivrian Project and survivors of the Astris Genocide. The survivors were banished by the Ida to the Bes Island Chain with their remaining progeny when extermination proved too difficult.
  • As a culture, the Bes Yashelin trend towards social isolationism. This is especially pertinent in regards to their Aravun Yashelin counterparts. For the longest time, the Bes Yashelin seemed to content to not even reside in the same room as an Aravun person. Recently, however, the two cultures (and the 'nations' associated with them) have entered formal negotiations for trade regarding food, medicine, and specific research endeavors.
  • They are comparatively warm with other Kivrian Yashelin ethnicities, but prefer to hold them at arm's length until they have proven themself in some way.
  • Since there are few members of the Yashelin species to begin with, the Bes Yashelin make up an extremely low percentage of the Bes population. Nevertheless, they also tend to hold the most significant positions of power in Bes, due at least in part to their peoples' traditional reverence of Yashelin folks and their significant longevity. Two examples of Bes Yashelin folks include:
  • The most (in)famous of the Bes Yashelin is Maran Vela, the commander of the Bes Navy with anything but an isolationist mindset, at least as far as the Kivrian seas are concerned.
  • Sachi, on the other hand, is a doctor who has never left the Bes Island Chain since the day she stepped foot on its soil after the war. She has no intentions of leaving and doesn't care very much about international (or interplanetary)  politics unless it directly impacts her. In that case, she hates it but she'll grin and bear it so long as there is enough of a proven benefit to her people.
