History of Azurythos

The Age of Gods

The age of gods saw the creation of the solar system and the planet of Azurythos. During this time the gods created the Dragons and other species. After a while the Dragons began to chafe under the rules of the gods and began to rebel.

Eventually the Dragons, led by the Metallic Dragons who bargained with the Chromatic Dragons to join them, went to war with the gods and after many struggles killed or banished them all from the material plane.

Because of these actions, there is no more divine presence on the face of Azurythos. No clerics, no paladins. Most importantly, nothing to stop a demonic invasion from the Abyss.

The Age of Dragons

The Age of Dragons began with the death of the last god and lasted until the start of the demonic invasion at the southern pole. By the time the demons began their invasion the dragons had managed to reduce their numbers to under 500 for the first time ever. Because of this all of the remaining dragons entered hibernation to regain their strength and power.

No one knows how many dragons still remain and if or when they will ever return.

The Age of Demons

The age of demons began with their invasion at the southern pole of Azurythos. Within a very short time this facilitated drastic ecological change across the face of the planet. Within just a few months the temperature at the pole had risen enough to melt the entire polar ice sheet.

This led to a massive rise in sea level that nearly overnight wiped out all of the major kingdoms and empires that existed across the planet. All of the existing governments fell as their capital cities were sunk below the waves.

Thankfully it took the demons a few centuries to fully claim the southern most continent thus allowing the sapient species of the world time to begin rebuilding what they had lost.

All to soon though the demons struck out from the south pole and began to swarm over the planet.

The races had to band together on each continent and after millennia of fighting managed to push the demons back to the southern continent.

Once the sapient species managed to form a foothold on the southern continent and eventually establish a kingdom there the Age of Demons came to a close.

The Age of Mortals

Azurythos is currently in the Age of Mortals. The gods are gone, the dragons (those that remain) slumber, and the demons are confined to the southern continent. It's now been 3500 years since the demons threat was contained. Today most mortals don't even know they exist.

The king of the humans on the polar continent though knows the fight is far from won. After five millennia of receiving less and less support from the northern kingdoms he knows the demons are on the verge of breaking out. In his desperation he turned to a recently devised ritual magic to summon heroes from another plain.

While this worked it didn't work quite as intended. First it paired the world of Azurythos with another world in the multiverse that was as similar to it, OUR EARTH! Then the ritual slowly spiraled out across the globe and pulled over every tenth person between the ages of 18 and 34. The ritual did not care where these people were so some drowned as they were in places near earths coast.

Those that survived though found themselves in a world vastly different to their own and yet in some ways similar.
