Summer Camp Prep 2024

Week 1: Assignment 1: Related to the novel Knit One, Scale One: Maybe pressure from another leader, the threat of war, is making Keizl (the antagonist) do drastic things. Maybe he’s recruiting (forcibly) young boys for his army. Maybe he’s increasing his “taxes” to pay for his growing mercenary army as well. Maybe the influx of new mercenaries in town is making it dangerous for townsfolk to be out after dark or to go into certain businesses. The townspeople are helpless to do anything, as the mayor is so deep in Keizl's pockets, he'll never do anything to change the city for the better.   Assignment 2:
Assignment 3: I got my categories and tags organized. It was a fun project. I have three novels that take place in this world, so I used each of them as a category. I don't have many tags yet because I'm so new to WorldAnvil.   Assignment 4: I just finished my world meta. I find it so helpful to have all of the prompts to use for world building. I will probably go back and expand on the world meta as I brainstorm new ideas. It's also helpful to have this as I draft, since this novel hasn't been written yet. My other world is a setting for a novel that's already written and in the process of being revised, so world building feels redundant. I do have a clearer picture in my head of the world and how magic works in it from the world meta for that book. For this world, the world meta can be expanded more and more, as it's the world for several books. The books are all set in different time periods but on the same world. I'm excited to expand on the world, including the timeline, which I'm finding helpful, both for world building and for brainstorming.   Week 2: Assignment 1: Greta’s refuge is her cottage, so I need to describe it as richly as possible and how she loves it. Brelki’s refuge is the tools of her trade, so I need to focus on those for her and how things like taking care of her sword are important to her. Keizl’s refuge is his headquarters, which includes his daughter. He lounges about, makes fun of his men, eats, drinks, etc. He uses his headquarters more so than observes them.   Assignment 2: I joined the Facebook group.   Assignment 3: I played with the general styling settings and even uploaded an image to my world.   Assignment 4: Not a CSS wizard. Not even a little bit.   Week 3: Assignment #1: The people in my world believe in various religions. They also believe in various unwritten rules, such as keep your head down or don’t make waves. Some of them believe in their leader, who is the antagonist. Assignment #2: Having my dog near me when I write inspires me; “Your intuition knows what to write, so get out of the way.” Ray Bradbury; “A word after a word after a word is power.” Margaret Atwood; I listen to a YouTube video of a train ride with music that’s for writers. Assignment #3: I have maps for my world. I just haven’t uploaded them to WorldAnvil yet. Assignment #4: I guess for inspiration sources I’d add Bridgerton, the series. I started watching it, thinking it was going to be some silly romance but it sucked me in. So, rather than waste an opportunity, I studied why it sucked me in. I studied its plot, its characterization, its scene pacing. I learned from it and was inspired to work harder on those things in my own writing, not that the genre is remotely alike.
