Duranian Wildlands (Dure-AIN-ian Wildlands)
The Duranian Wildlands are located in the Eastern region of Ket'rani, housing the warrior settlement of Duren.
A harsh ice plain, the area is host to an interesting selection of creatures and resources, from the rare subspecies of elemental whale the blizzardwhale, to the more common frostwhale, to frostgills that swim beneath the arcane crystals that form beneath the ice fields.
The Wildlands have a unique climate within Ket'rani, hosting an endless snowstorm that circles the land due to the presence of one of the few pods of blizzardwhales on Axordia, which live in extremely cold environments and have made the Wildlands their hunting ground.
Geography
The Duranian Wildlands are a harsh ice plain located in the East of Ket'rani. The general terrain is fairly rough, with icy dunes being built up due to the constant snowfall. With snow being blown by the constantly changing wind, explorers have found it incredibly difficult to map the area, as any landmarks that are noted are often moved or covered by the storm after a few weeks.
On the northern outskirt of the Wildlands lies the Chasm, a large fracture in the frost-hardened ground. Thought to descend around 800ft into the earth, the Chasm is mostly unexplored due to a combination of the unpredictable weather and unstable terrain making it incredibly difficult to navigate.
Localized Phenomena
The Duranian Wildlands are plagued by a constant storm, colloquially referred to as the Everstorm by the residents of Duren and the settlements lying on the edge of the Wildlands. The storm is caused by blizzardwhales, who live and hunt in the Wildlands.
Climate
The Duranian Wildlands host an extraordinarily harsh climate. The temperature has never been recorded above freezing, and can reach depths of 50 degrees below freezing point. A constant storm of snow and ice circles the Wildlands, the hunting grounds of a blizzardwhale, a rare crossbreed of a stormwhale and a frostwhale. The eye of this storm is the warmest place within the Wildlands, and the only place where there is no wind at all in all of Ket'rani.
In the east of the Duranian Wildlands, the Mirrored Lake rests, a deceptive name as the mirrored effect only occurs when the lake is in the eye of the storm. Most of the time, the Lake is a churning chasm of dark water, earning it its true name: The Abyssal Lake.
Fauna & Flora
Whales
The Duranian Wildlands are host to a few species of elemental whales. The Wildlands are the main habitat for frostwhales in Ket'rani, due to the extremely cold climate and constant snow, allowing them a large area to move and hunt in. The Wildlands are also the home to one of the few pods of blizzardwhales in Axordia, the cause of the Everstorm, the constant snowstorm that rages over the Wildlands.History
In recent years, the Whaleguard discovered a secret facility beneath the Wildlands, where multiple people who had been kidnapped were being held and experimented on for their unique abilities. Notably within this group were Kaya and Zephyrus Silverthorn, daughter and son of Lady Beatrix Silverthorn, and heirs to the city of Ostylia. The facility was abandoned when the Whaleguard and Lady Silverthorn arrived following a series of unusual seismic events being noted by the Wildlands patrol, those who perpetrated the experimentation having fled following the series of magical explosions that ravaged the equipment in the facility.
