Nocte Mountain
This mountain that revels in the beauty of a starry night. They say it houses a secret within.
Overview
A mountain of the night, or so it is known to many. Nocte Mountain appears in stark contrast to the other mountains in its range due to its black appearance. Where other mountains shine with a metallic sheen in the Silver Mountains this mountain remains dark, though it does seem to sparkle in the moonlight.Summit of Eternal Night
Those who have traveled to Nocte's summit have seen the stars as clear as if it was midnight, no matter the time of day. At first it was thought that this was due to the mountain's great height, but now many believe that some kind of magic is at play.Unexplained Figures
Not all sights on the slopes of Nocte are optimistic promises of life. Dark figures have been seen observing climbers as they went to and from the mountain's summit. Some climbers have attempted to approach the figures yet find nothing. Not even a footprint in the snow was to be seen where the figures used to be. It is possible that these figures are a product of the imagination of climbers. It is also possible that the mountain is inhabited by a people who leave no trace of their presence. It is an enduring mystery that many wish to answer.Geography
Nocte Mountain is part of the Silver Mountains. The surrounding mountains appear like silver under the noon sun, a result of the metallic dust that coats these mountains. Nocte itself also has this dust, though they fail to create the silver sheen due to the mountain's dark materials.
While the rock of the mountain itself consists of various shades of blacks, the summit is capped with snow and ice like most other mountains in its immediate surroundings. However, this snow is darkened due to the persistent night that exists at the top. Nocte stands out from the other silver mountains because of this. As such, it is a useful landmark for travelers traveling the Lluvia island of the Quassus Continent.
Fauna & Flora
No flora or fauna are to be seen on the face of this mountain. From a distance, the mountain seems as desolate as the rest. However, some climbing expeditions have reported seeing exotic vegetation flourishing within deep crevices and caves within the mountain. It is an unlikely scenario considering that most of the mountain that is visible lies above where one would expect to find growing things. Some suspect the mountain hides a sort of oasis that has yet to be breached from the outside.
The plants are different from most as they glow in various colors. One of the first discovered on Nocte Mountain was a large, purple mushroom. This mushroom had the added strange property of exuding breathable air, thereby providing an unexpected yet welcomed respite for the weary mountain climber. This mushroom was named the Umwor Mushroom after the climber who discovered it. Other such plants were since discovered including a cherry tree that possess the same qualities as the mushroom. More expeditions continue to find more varieties of plants hidden in deeper caverns as they are discovered.
