Age of Creation

Before Recorded History

The beginning of the World Tree, and it's creation, as known by the greatest arcanists and saints.

  • -50000 AOC

    Birth of the Tree
    Celestial / Cosmic

Born from a drifting egg in the chaos of the void, the Great Serpent hatches from it's wooden egg.   Driven by unknown purpose, the great serpent uses the chaos of the space around it and the pieces of it's hatched egg to forge the world tree. Dividing the void into three portions. The roots below, the trunk between, and the leaves above.

  • ...
    The First Schism
    Life, Identity

Unable to watch over the vast tree on it's own, the Great Serpent splits itself into two forms: The Serpent of the Roots and the Serpent of the Leaves.   Both serpents take on aspects of the Great Serpent, but lose their contrasting parts. The Serpent Above composed of Light, Fire, and Air. The Serpent Below composed of Darkness, Earth, and Water.

  • ...
    The Third Serpent
    Life, Birth

Following their creation, the Serpent of the Leaves and the Serpent of the Roots unite temporarily to create the Serpent of the Trunk, a third cosmic serpent that would grow within the tree itself, a melding of aspects from the Serpent Above and the Serpent Below, similar to that of the Serpent of the Tree and gifted with the breath of life.

  • ...
    Forging of the Cradle
    Artistic creation

With the Serpent of the Leaves and the Serpent of the Root pursuing eternal vigilance in their domains, the Serpent of the Trunk was left to it's own devices. In this freedom, the Serpent of the Trunk would set forth to create the Cradle of Life.   It molded the centerpoint of the tree into a convergence of the tree's elemental veins of fire, water, earth, and wind, channeled through the wood of the tree itself. This elemental soup would not be enough however, so it stole a shed scale from the Serpent Below to create the underbelly of the cradle of life, and a second shed scale from the Serpent Above to create the surface of the cradle of life.   This was the beginning of Avigard.

  • ...
    The Titans of Avigard
    Celestial / Cosmic

Content with it's finalized creation, the Serpent of the Trunk reared back and unleashed it's breath for the first time across the Cradle of Life. The elemental chaos coalesced into sporadic chunks that bubbled and sparked to life.   Towering creatures born of the elements and imbued with sentient life, the Avi were made. They would set out to meld the landscape into what they wished. Gigantic beasts imbued with the chaotic essence of the tree's veins and born to wild tendencies of nature incarnate.

  • The end of the Beginning
    First Speldborn
    Artistic creation

Though happy with the creation of the Avi, the Serpent of the Trunk was discontent with their lack of desire beyond their elemental ties. Seeking something more, the Serpent took one of it's own wooden scales and carved the shape of the first humanoids. Placing them into the cradle and breathing life into their physical form.   It was from this breath that the first Speldborn were created.

The 1st Age

1 1A to 15000 1A

The creation of the speldborn marks the beginnings of humanoid life on Avigard. Soon to be embroiled in and shaped by the largest known conflict in Avigard's history.

  • The First Request
    First of the Celestial Dragons
    Celestial / Cosmic

Speldborn, guided by the Serpent of the Trunk to prosperity, request warmth and light from their creator. Hearing their pleas, the Serpent of the Trunk travels to the Leaves and steals another scale from the Serpent Above. Returning to the cradle and using one of it's own scales in combination with the breath of life to create the first Celestial Dragon, Pavairreks.   Pavairreks was made into a core part of the Cradle of Life, becoming an ever-vigilant observer of Avigard, and granting the Speldborn great light and warmth that would carry on the wind.

  • The Second Request
    Splintering of the Celestial Twins
    Celestial / Cosmic

Granted light and warmth from the presence of the sun above, the Speldborn eventually return to the World Serpent with pleas of respite from the eternal light. Something that was discomforting to their process of sleeping.   In response, the World Serpent dove below to the Roots of the world tree. Collecting a shed scale from the Serpent of the Roots and returning to the Cradle, it used this scale in combination with a wooden scale of it's own to forge the second Celestial Dragon. However, the chaotic nature of the scale caused it to splinter through the process. Resulting in the creation of the Twin Celestial Dragons, Aranotl and Kalanoks, the two which would become the moons of the cradle.

  • Titanic Studies
    Rise of Giants
    Religious event

A number of Speldborn tribes who diverged from the following of the World Serpent, sought wisdom and knowledge from the Avi. These efforts would give rise to the first giants, those who followed the Avi and were granted great physical strength and presence in return were comparably small in population to the rest of the Speldborn.

  • The First Scheme
    Birth of the Klarath
    Celestial / Cosmic

As the World Serpent herded the Speldborn to prosperity, the Serpent of the Roots became keenly aware of the Cradle of Life through the Celestial Twin Dragons.   As the first of it's schemes it would collect the shedding scales that fell off the World Serpent. Using them in conjunction with it's own scales and breath to create a number of uniquely powerful beings. The most succesful among these creatures were the Klarath.

  • Founding of the Brine
    Empires of Brine
    Cultural event

Traveling from the depths of the Underworld, the Klarath breached the barrier between and set forth to founding a multitude of petty undersea kingdoms in the ocean surrounding the lands of the Speldborn. Many of the Klarath made efforts to lure the Speldborn into their newfound kingdoms to study and alter their forms.

  • Discovery of Magic
    Whispers of Chaos
    Metaphysical / Paranormal event

As the Speldborn mingled with the undersea kingdoms of the Klarath, they were exposed to the nature of the Klarath's chaotic influence over the physical aspects of the cradle. Practice of and methods of breaking the fundamental structure of the Cradle taught to earliest Speldborn, creating the origins of arcane magic.

  • Celestial Dominance
    Rise of the Celestial Empire
    Diplomatic action

Fueled by the powers of the Serpent above and below, Pavairreks reined in Aranotl and Kalanoks' chaotic nature to fight back against the chaos that was beginning to take root in the land. The Serpent Above used it's direct connection to Pavairreks in order to drive a direct conflict between the Celestial Dragons and Klarath by motivating the Celestial Dragons to form great kingdoms, and to gain greater control over the Speldborn.

  • War of Drowned Steel
    Contest of Tyranny
    Military: War

The Celestial Dragons offered great powers and boons to those who would follow them, rewarding legendary fighters and warriors alike. The Klarath united against the Celestial Dragons. A war waged on land and sea, Klarath mutating their human subjects into terrible objects of war, while the Celestial Dragons refined the speldborn into perfect desired forms that would increase the efficacy of their battle against the Klarath.   The Klarath quickly called it the 'Contest of Tyranny', humored in the fact that the dragons would subject the speldborn to the same way of life they had forced on those they influenced. To the Celestial Dragons, it would be known as the 'Cleansing', a rightful purging of the terrible influence that sought to ruin what was beautiful.

  • Serpent's Isolation
    Serpent's Withdrawal
    Life, Trauma/ Loss

Seeing little difference between Klarath and Celestial Dragons, the Serpent of the Trunk withdrew from it's oversight of the Cradle and returned to the edges of the land, leaving things to simply unfold.

  • ~10000 1A
    The Great Sundering
    Metaphysical / Paranormal event

Pushed to the edge by the war, the Klarath enacted a final ritual born of chaotic essence, the darkness that originated from the serpent's scale directly spilled forth from the underworld. The Klarath making use of magic not seen before in the material plane to shatter the second moon, Kalanoks was sundered in a terrible blow. The first death of a celestial dragon. Pavairreks would be the one to fight back in rage, burning with the light of the serpent above, a direct response to the presence of the serpent below's power. A beam of piercing light cracked through the ocean and lands. Splitting the great continent and altering the surface of the cradle

  • Divinity Sparks
    Gift of Divinity
    Religious event

The very essence of Kalanoks would be seeded throughout the land. Finding vestiges in the various heroes and individuals that lived among the remaining humanoids. Twisted by the Klarath's magics or not, in a single swipe of divine essence all humanoids would find themselves drawing on powers they did not know the origins of, and a few would find themselves heightened beyond just that of a mortal.

  • Arcane Embers
    Arcane Rising
    Celestial / Cosmic

Shards of the moon scattering throughout the sky with imbuements of the most powerful Klarath magic that had ever been used on such a scale weaken the rigidity of the Cradle's reality. Granting more humanoids than ever access to the reality bending capabilities of Arcane magic.

  • The Divergence
    Divergence of Dragons
    Disbandment

With the klarath defeated and the world shattered from the war, the Celestial Dragons offer penance and a choice to the remaining humanoids: To remain in the home they originated from, distant from the influence of the Celestial Dragons for the rest of eternity, or the option to travel with the Celestial Dragons to a new home under their powerful authority. No creature was forced into the choice, and this divergence would soon be a part of what created the differences between Valokus and Ikaios. The other continents would not be graced with the chance.

The 2nd Age

1 2A to 2500 2A

The world-shattering impacts of the Great Sundering reawaken a number of Avi from their places in hibernation or stasis. Humanoids are sent scattered across the surface of the cradle, and all of them are left to pick up the pieces from the embers of an ancient war.

  • ~ 1 2A to 712 2A
    Founding of the Celestial Concord
    Founding

All humanoids that embraced the leadership of the Celestial Dragons would be brought along to establish themselves in the distant shattered continent and settle it under the rigid guidance of the dragons. The twins would split the continent between one another, and the lands would flourish in isolated prosperity for many years.

  • ~ 1 2A to 1200 2A
    Avi Reawakening
