Lord-Governor
The precursor to the position of the Fire-Lord in ATLA.
The Lord-Governor of the Fire Nation serves as the hereditary head of the elected Senate Body of the Fire Isles. The Lord-Governor technically has full authority to veto any law created by the senate body. However, the Lord-Governor rarely uses the veto power. Instead, the Lord-Governor mainly fulfills a ceremonial role, often traveling throughout the Fire Isles to meet with his or her subjects.
Requirements
Direct descendant or specifically chosen by the previous Lord-Governor.
Appointment
Typically, the eldest child of the current Lord-Governor is raised to become the next Lord-Governor. However, the current Lord-Governor can also pick someone from outside of their family to succeed them, but this rarely happens. If the current Lord-Governor dies without naming an heir, the most direct descendant of the Lord-Governor is automatically chosen to succeed their place.
Duties
Ensure the wellbeing of the people of the Fire Nation.
Grounds for Removal/Dismissal
Technically, no official way for removal.
Can be challenged to Agni Kai and killed. Killer DOES NOT inherit throne.
Cultural Significance
The role of Lord-Governor highlights the more peaceful ways of the Republic of the Fire Isles compared to their violent past, when they were ruled by a Fire Lord.
