Battle of Gao Shan
"The Peninsulans fought valianty, and most importantly of all, cleverly. The battle began in the plains west of the Pass. Feigning an initial retreat, the Peninsulan forces lured the much larger Ba Sing Se force into the Pass itself. There, the Peninsulans turned to face their foe. This created a choke point which greatly nullified the number disadvantage they faced. Still, it was only a matter of time before the sheer numbers of the Ba Sign Se force wore down their opponents, and the brave Peninsulans were there annihilated." - Excerpt from History of the World by the Secret College
A critical battle which occurred during the beginning of The Great War between the Kingdom of Ba Sing Se and the Eastern Peninsulans.
The battle was fought over control of The Lion's Pass, otherwise known as the Pass of Gao Shan. The pass controlled land access to the Eastern Peninsula.
If the Kingdom of Ba Sing Se won the battle, they would secure their eastern border from potential invasion by the Eastern Peninsulans and have a clear path to possibly invade the Eastern Peninsulans in the future.
If the Kingdom of the Peninsulans won, they would secure their western border from invasion and be able to launch attacks against the Kingdom of Ba Sing Se to conquer it.
In the end, the sheer numbers of the Kingdom of Ba Sing Se won the day, and the Eastern Peninsulans were driven back into seclusion within the Eastern Peninsula. The Kingdom of the Peninsulans would subsequently collapse, and a fractured tribal government government would take its place governmentally.
