Uribal

Destroyer of Worlds

Dominus Uribal

"You will not go gentle into that good night. You will go there screaming."
— Dominus Uribal

Dominus Uribal (pronounced: OOR-rih-BAWL) is the god of destruction, eradication, extinction, and genocide that serves in the Dominion. Many Phoenixians believe that Uribal is destined to bring about the destruction of their world and Uribal is eager to prove them right.

History

Birth at the End of Days

Uribal is a daemon who was created in the wake of destruction. Uribal was the last living thing to bloom from the Garden of the Gods before it ceased creation. Their first impression of the planes beyond was the madness of the Thousand Year Flood. The unraveling planes and countless painful deaths were a glorious sight, and they reveled in the despair.

Uribal never choose a side in the war of the gods. When Uribal arrived upon a battlefield, they would kill anything in sight no matter what or who it was. Uribal strolled through shattered realms and wound the threads of broken planes into trophies, a reminder of the meaningless worlds that were lost. With every thread they claimed and every god they killed, they grew in power.

A New Beginning for a Worse End

Uribal's revelry ended when the gods signed their peace agreement. The destruction ceased and all that was left to do was pick up the pieces. Uribal was left disappointed and without a place among their fellow gods until Archdominus Serallus approached them with a deal: A place to live in Diabolis in exchange for their servitude.

Much like the other archfiends that survived the Thousand Year Flood, Uribal was suspicious of this stranger. They watched their fellow archfiends attempt to counter Serallus with trials, but he bested everything thrown at him. Uribal saw this for what it was, their next challenge.

When Uribal accepted Serallus' offer, they did so knowing that Serallus' days were numbered. One day, they would bring about the brilliant calamity they reveled in after their birth. This time, the destruction would be endless.

Tower Fall

When the Tarotic Gods arrived within the planar realms, the Towering Death manifested within the House of the Bitter End. Uribal viewed this new god of calamities as direct competition, so they met the Towering Death's arrival with brutal violence.

The gods locked themselves into a destructive duel that overwhelmed the walls of the House of the Bitter End and spilled into the other Diabolic houses. The duel would have scraped the planes beyond as well had Serallus not intervened and put an end to the violence. The Towering Death was banished from Diabolis and the fortifications of the other Diabolic houses were restored.

Uribal made a vow that they would someday bring about the end of the Tarotic pantheon, starting with the Towering Death.

Manifestation

During the Leonos Midwinter Festival in 1676, the first successful summoning of Uribal occurred during The Midwinter Ambush. Uribal manifested within Leonos as a mortal avatar and caused mayhem for the city in the days following the attack. Uribal was eventually banished from the Material Plane by Priestess Iahmesu of the Wastes and Leonos was safe again.

Dogma

Uribal believes that all things are merely transient and their days are numbered. Natural conclusions take far too long, it is nobler to usher in the end yourself with all the destruction and violence you can muster. It is not enough to end a civilization, anyone that lived there from the highest king to the lowest beggar must perish, their foundations must crumble, and their earth must be salted.

Relationships

Uribal forms relationships as a means to an end. If they do not believe someone could be used to bring about destruction, they will not engage. All will end up crushed under their heels in time, best to not waste the energy unless necessary.

Friends

Uribal cycles through alliances in Dominion frequently, stabbing their allies in the back as the quickest opportunity. Despite this erratic behavior, Uribal maintains three consistent alliances: Dominus Malakeh, Dominus Vrikdarok, and Dominus Utaba. Uribal admires Malakeh's ability to end relationships and shatter familial bonds with their deception. Uribal views Vrikdarok as more of a weapon of mass destruction than a fellow dominus. Utaba shares dominion over the daemons with Uribal. The pair have worked well together so far, but it is believed that there is only a matter of time until the domini of the daemons begin fighting each other.

Outside of the Dominion, Uribal sings the praises of several deities based on their destructive prowess. Exarch Moxhal and her connection to pure oblivion. The Itinerant gods, Lamei and Spiras, for their unique methods of wasting their enemies away. Finally, Ezzoal, the mother of the calamity they were born into.

Neutral Relationships

Certain scholars believe that there is a connection between Exarch Lanua and Uribal due to their joint connections to the end of days. According to legend, Lanua once offered Uribal a position as a member of the Exarchs after the Thousand Year Flood ended, but Uribal refused her in favor of Serallus.

Enemies

Uribal's violent nature has earned them a multitude of enemies. They encourage their followers to perform acts of grand scale destruction that have destroyed countless settlements and cultures since the end of the Thousand Year Flood. Imperatoran followers of Imperators Allara, Ephion, and Olah regularly meet the threats of the Uriballish cult head on in violent battles.

Uribal and their cult's destructive force have forced followers of certain Primordiac and Overseeran gods to work together. This behavior has not been seen since the Antediluvian era. The Primordial gods Ki, Mlaadra, Realta, and Senzui and Overseers Celano, Dalgan, Jalatron, and Lókn believe that Uribal is a great threat that warrants a more concrete truce between the Overseers and the Primordials for the sake of protecting the Material Plane.

After Uribal made their vow to destroy the Tarotic Gods, they have encouraged their followers to kill any member of the Tarotic faith they come across and demolish all Tarotic temples. This has deepened the animosity between the Towering Death and Uribal. The Tarotic'S faithful are so terrified of the Uriballish, that certain aspects of the Moon have begun to reflect daemonic traits.

Appearance

Uribal is a perpetual supernova that serves as the head for a body of twisted, rotting limbs, spindly cosmic tentacles, and wide wings of nebulae. Their body shimmers with ever shifting light that projects waves of radiation. They are dressed in the threads of unraveled planes, worn like medals that celebrate the countless lifetimes they have destroyed.

It is said that being in the presence of Uribal in their true, deific form is enough to kill a mortal.

Providence

Astronomers believe that the stars never burst into supernovae until the birth of Uribal.

The dangerous wild magic that torments Where Dragons go to Die and the Scarred Lands is believed to be due to Uribal placing their hands on the surface of Phoenix during the Thousand Year Flood to drink from the primordial waters that covered the planet at the time.

Home

Uribal's realm is the House of the Bitter End, the most inhospitable realm of Diabolis. It is a realm of ruins upon ruins, buildings of various architectural styles overrun and destroyed by an infinity of environmental hazards. One moment the House is bitterly cold, the next it's overwhelmingly hot. Invasive species of plant and animal are constantly fighting for survival against the elements and each other. The damned souls of the House beg the daemons that reside there to consume them in order to escape the torment.

Servants

Uribal is served solely by daemons. These daemons are more aggressive than the daemons of other houses and will not bother to communicate with any mortal outside of the Uriballish cult.

Zol'karn

Religion

Uriballish cult members are typically nomadic, they do not build anything unless they believe it will serve as a tool of destruction. They are usually found Where Dragons go to Die or the Scarred Lands. There are rumors that certain branches of the cult operate out of Perdition.

Worshipers

Misanthropes, the self destructive, and the power hungry are drawn to Uribal and their powers over calamities. The Uriballish do not care for Phoenix or her people, they believe that their world should have ended during the Thousand Year Flood.

As the economies of the realms steadily get worse, the Uriballish cult seems to grow in number as more Phoenixians run out of options. When someone chooses to find their faith is Uribal, it is because their only solace in a world without hope is watching the world burn along with them.

Clergy

The clergy of Uribal tends to keep to themselves. Meaningful relationships of any kind are strictly forbidden. Cult members cannot even form romantic relationships or friendships within the cult. All clerics must embrace destruction in all forms and fully cut themselves off from the world outside of the Uriballish faith and recognize that the charms of love are nothing in the face of eradication.

Uriballish clerics wear robes of ivory, red, and purple and hide their identities with uniform masks made from ivory or a similarly colored stone. They will hide every inch of skin and other defining characteristics to make it difficult to distinguish individual members from one another.

To further hide their identities, Uriballish clerics will stop using their own names. They are instead identified by different methods of destruction. Common Uriballish names are Quake, Dagger, Misery, or Dolor.

Uriballish Cambions

Clerics are forbidden from having children unless they are a means to bring about destruction in the future. The clergy are given an unholy blessing from Uribal that will cause any child they sire to be born as an Uriballish cambion. Clerics will often seek out locations where cambions are not welcome and sire cambion children there to ruin the reputations notable families.

The Uriballish cult makes a point to welcome in all cambions of Uribal. They aim to groom these cambions into lethal weapons to use for the cult's cause, promising to bring destruction to the world that was so cruel to them.

Manifestation of Destruction

Members of the Uriballish clergy devote their lives to finding opportunities to perform a ritual called The Manifestation of Destruction. They study weather patterns, seismic activity, the behavior of animals, or coordinate with dreadknight orders to look for opportune times for the ritual to begin. The Manifestation must be done alongside a great disaster such as a flood, earthquake, forest fire, or a large scale attack. The Uriballish will aid in the destruction of the disaster in order to get the attention of their god.

If the ritual gains Uribal's attention, Uribal will be summoned in the Material Plane inhabiting the body of a mortal avatar. As the destruction continues, Uribal will steadily gain power until they reach their full potential. From there, Uribal will shift into their true form and destroy the planet.

As of the present day, there has only been once successful Manifestation of Destruction, but Uribal was captured and banished before they gained too much power.

Temples & Shrines

Constructed shrines and temples to Uribal are rare and usually double as shelters for creating weapons of mass destruction. The Uriballish try to make these shelters as nondescript as possible to keep outsiders from discovering their plans.

The Uriballish usually settle into caverns or ruins to serve as their place of worship to their god. Whenever a branch of the Uriballish cult feels ready to begin a Manifestation of Destruction, the first thing they destroy will be their temple so any future movements they make are more difficult to trace.

Holy Sites

Where Dragons go to Die
