    The Emperor's Orders
    Expedition

After a period of stability, Emperor Vakarian was keen to expand his lands and influence. He sent settlers and soldiers to retake Westmarch as a foothold to the Reach. Several failed attempts later this plan was abandoned as the war with the hobgoblins to the North demanded the full might of the empire.

    Population Migration / Travel

With the War against the Hobgoblins finally over the new Emperor Darius Vakarian sought to make good on his father's plan to expand the empire into the reach. Where large expeditions (costly in both gold and manpower) had failed Darius employed a different strategy. He sought out skilled and powerful individuals and offered them a personal stake in the success of the endeavour. These chosen few were called the Pathfinders, they were empowered to claim land for the empire and under the leadership of Baron Ashfield, one of the Emperor's trusted wartime commanders, Westmarch was retaken, though the cost was high. Almost all pathfinders sent into the reach did not survive including Baron Ashfield himself. Only half a dozen pathfinders now live in the rebuilt town of Westmarch each content to protect the town from the dangers that lurk beyond its rebuilt walls.
