War of the leaves

The war fought in Foxhole Forest between the Dareni Empire and the Kingdom of Eradia. The war started after a merchant from Eradia, using the newly build Grey road came to Dareni and insulted an important member of the Avani. In response the entire caravan of merchants was put to death, including the nephew of the king. When they did not return after several months, an investigation was launched. When the truth came to light the war started.   The war of the leaves was almost exclusively fought in Foxhole Forest, hence the name. In the fifteen years of the war, very little progress was made by either side due to the lack of accessibility. after around twelve years both sides simply decided not to try any further campaigns into the other's territories, and only defend their holdings. After several years without any attacks, a messenger was sent by the Empire to negotiate an official peace. After the war it took several decades for the trade that was initially going very well between both nations to really get going again.
