The Weave
**The Weave and the Shadow Weave**
The Weave is the embodiment of magic’s goodness, a vast, blue web hidden from most eyes but visible to those attuned to its mysteries. Created by the god **Mystryl**, the Weave serves as a network through which mortals and deities alike can channel raw magical energy—or **Nano**—the fundamental essence present in every living and nonliving thing. Nano, also called raw magic, is the primordial energy that Mystryl alone truly understands and can manipulate. Through the Weave, spellcasters draw upon Nano, bending it to their will and shaping spells and effects.
Even in death, Mystryl’s presence endures; as long as magic exists, Mystryl and the Weave remain intertwined. Should Mystryl fall, the Weave will persist until the god is restored. Over time, however, widespread events like the fall of the Netherese empire transformed the Weave across the multiverse, limiting the ability to cast spells above 10th level. In these changed times, mages discovered that by mixing Spellfire with Weave threads, they could rapidly access higher magic and even cast multiple spells at once. Such practitioners are known as **Spell Weavers**—though only true Spellfire holders, like the Chosen of Mystra, can truly master Nano independent of the Weave.
Opposing the Weave is the **Shadow Weave**, which represents the end of life’s energy. While the Weave is the source from which everything begins, the Shadow Weave is where it ultimately ends. It is not created by Mystryl; instead, she allows it to exist in areas where the Weave is weaker. The Shadow Weave channels a draining, corrosive energy that stands in stark contrast to the creative potential of the Weave.
The Weave permeates every realm—even those where magic seems absent—but its power varies from plane to plane. In realms such as the Hells, the very appearance and effect of spells change to match the local environment. In such places, even if a Weave is not present, it can be reconstructed by Mystra’s Chosen or by those who carry a Cycle of the Weave within them, allowing the fabric of magic to reassert itself in the plane.
Conflicts occasionally arise when two Weaves clash—moments when competing magical energies slam into one another. These clashes often give birth to wild magic surges, with each Weave bleeding into the other until balance is restored, albeit with unpredictable results.
Beyond the traditional Weave exists **Spellfire**, is a rare power that allows the user to tap into Nano without the need of the Weave surrounded themselves in a silver blue flame. this power allows the user to absorb magic from others and redirect it back into their own spell. The only people not born with this gift are those chosen by Mystra herself their power is called the silver flame. This type of magic is so potent that it might only be reliably used once a millennium.
Ultimately, all magic in the multiverse—whether it comes from demonic pacts, divine blessings, or the ancient runes of the Primordials—is intertwined with the Weave. It channels Nano in one form or another, creating a universal tapestry of magical energy that connects every spell, every enchantment, and every act of power across all planes of existence.
