Twilight Marshals
When the akati settled in their new lands, they did so by the grace of the King of Couralis on many conditions, but one major one: to rid them of the problem that Moraveil had become.
The akati did not have a lot when they arrived, having fled the fall of Agartha with little more than the clothes they had and a bag. Much was lost, but hope was not.
With the Guardians occupied with the Shadow War, a new division was created among the Imperial Forces called the Shadowhands to deal with what became known as the Bloom Incursions, a period of escalating breaches along the Moraveil border region where reality itself had begun to thin.
The highest rank is held by the Twilight Marshal, originally an unofficial title for the Kael-Vora midnight watch commander.
Duties
The duty of the Twilight Marshal's office is to prevent the curse of Moraveil from spreading, though it is currently a losing battle. Not only do they need to protect the borders from cursed beasts other horrors, they also work as guides and protectors of researchers pushing into the depths of the ruins of Moraveil to find the cause of the curse and perhaps its cure.
The Marshal commands up to ten mobile strike squadrons and oversees twilight areas -- towns and forests partially altered by Moraveil bleeds, making decisions whether to ward, evacuate, or burn these places.
Symbols and Regalia
The symbol of the Shadowhands and their Twilight Marshal is two crescents inverted against each other, with a blade between them. It is known as the Sigil of Wane and Watch.
While all Twilight Marshals come into their office with their own prefered weapons of choice, there is one thing that is bestowed upon them: the Cloak of Duskwool. This looks like a charcoal mantle woven with silk spun from the Yllathar Vine (whose nectar can grow into an Orb), said to resist psychic damage and cloak the wearer from true sight.
Notable Twilight Marshals
Marshal Sen Vareth – A Mora Monk and the first to hold the new title, known as the Still Blade. Rumored to have resisted a full curse bleed into his mind at the Incursion of Ulveil.
Marshal Kaehra Mornveil – A half-Akati, half-Couralian dragonborn with true sight whose twin serves with the Thirawen's Hollowbloom Sanctum. She forged the first pact with the Thirawen leaders.
Marshal Tovek Dorr – Led the controversial Paling of Vallaria, sacrificing a village to close a breach before it could become a third Sundering.
Controversy
Commanders in the capital have noticed a growing autonomy among the borderholds who act with increasing independence and moral ambiguity. Some leaders fear the Marshals and their squadrons are becoming a militia, while others feel that as long as they keep the curse and its tendrils from seeping into the Empire, they can do what they please.
Naseena Heicyne, one of the current Twilight Marshals, was raised as a border officer’s daughter in Kael‑Vora. As a young scout, she survived a realm incursion and soon began to exhibit Veil-sensitive abilities, which helped her lead patrols safely through the cursed lands of Moraveil. Earning her a rapid promotion. She carries a distinctive ghost‑blue sigil across her palm, visible only in dim light.
