Calador Nythris
Centuries ago, during the Riftfall Cataclysm that affected western Oliria, where Dashia now is, the planar boundaries that protected the Material Plane began to crumble due to an incursion from Nyxora. Elemental storms ravaged the lands, fey courts spilled into mortal territories, and shadowy corruption spread like a plague from the Shadowfell.
In this time of chaos, Calador Nythris, a high elf of unparalleled wisdom and strength, rose to prominence as the first Paladin of the Oath of the Realms. Born in the city of Iryndal, a bastion of might and courage, to a humble couple Calador displayed an affinity for planar magic from a young age.
As a squire to a knight of the Radiant Order, he witnessed the cost of unchecked extraplanar power when an incursion destroyed his home. Swearing never to let such devastation befall others, he dedicated himself to preserving the delicate balance between the planes.
Deeds and Legacy
Calador Nythris was a Paladin, the first to swear the Oath of the Realms, and was also a skilled diplomat. Both before and during the cataclysm he brokered truce amongst the fey courts, the elemental lords and shade warlords. Known as the Truce of Ash and Snow, it was an attempt to keep the peace between the realms as the Veil thinned and ripped. Because of his role in the Truce, he was elected to lead the united armies against Nyxora.
Calador’s most famous act was sealing the Kael Rift, the original rift that caused the Riftfall Cataclysm. Wielding the legendary sword Ulirandra, the Dawnpiercer in the common tongue, he stood at the epicenter and performed the ritual that bonded both his sword and his soul to the soil of Avaleen. This cataclysmic event left a permanent scar on the land, now known as the Riftspire Crater. The truce persisted for two hundred years, upheld by emissaries and guardians who honored Calador’s legacy.
Appearance and Personality
Calador was described as regal, yet approachable. His radiant armor giving him an almost celestial aura few argued with. The vast knowledge and power he held shone through his eyes, and his voice commanded armies, making even the fiercest enemies listen to him and each other.
There was always something strange about him, many would say, as if the very thinnest of edges of him were always in flux. Though unyielding in his duty, he was known for his wisdom and compassion, seeking harmony instead of dominion.
Personal Life
Calador was born in Iryndal to Elenara Nythris and Joren Nythris, a farmer and a hunter respectively. Some time before his birth, his father was in a tragic hunting accident which left him paralyzed. Elenara's business blossomed, and Joren was a big supporter of both his wife and son. It was a happy household, but humble and grounded which only added to Calador's reputation when he became a squire and later knight of the Radiant Order.
Despite the respect and status he commanded from a young age, and the amount of time he spent with his nose stuck in a book or a scroll, Calador was no celibate monk. He had many wild affairs, which resulted in many, many children. It is said that his descendants can be found in commoners as well as the ruling houses of Couralis, Dashia, Eprea, Lossorach, and Varu though how true that is remains a mystery.
Fate
Calador vanished after sealing the Kael Rift. Some believe he perished, his essence becoming one with the Veil he swore to protect. Others claim he still walks the realms, watching silently as the Guardian of the Veil. His name is invoked by realmwalkers, planar guardians, and scholars alike, a symbol of hope in Avaleen’s darkest hours.
Some believe that Calador Nythris simply retired and wandered off into the wilds with a new name and a new purpose, seeking a simple and humble life like that of his parents.
Uliandra remains lost to the world of mortals.
