The Newly Organized and Most Excellent Guild of Mining
A great number of mine owners, both large and small saw the need for a Guild. So many mining operations had been sabotaged (stolen from) by the infamous single handed scoundrel known only as Juvial, that the entire community of miners from Rock Gnomes to Dwarves agreed finally that it was time to make a consortium of Mining fellows so that any who paid their dues in order to belong to the Guild of Mining would be protected. Each Guild member from the smallest black opal miners to the largest mountain dwarf miners agreed to come to the aid of each other in the event of sabotage, trickery, or thievery.
They concluded that the best way to catch the dwarf who had stolen not just their gems and their equipment, but also their trust must be caught, at all costs. Not a single hand was raised when the President of the newly formed guild asked for "nays".
Every single mining faction represented at that first council member concluded that it was in their best interests to find this Juvial.
Had anyone known that the scoundrel himself sat in the audience smoking his simple pipe, wearing simple miner's gear was the one and only cause of all their troubles, there would have been a great riot among those attending with each wanting to be the one who got to him first. It wasn't simply the bounty of 5000GP placed on his head, it was pride. It was anger, and it was revenge.
The newly elected leader of the NOMEGM for short, one Hazeltiff Grangbellow was a stolid and well respected Dwarf from the north. Many of those in attendance had never been so far north but they understood that Grangfellow's operations were essential to the economy of the entire northern half of the continent and readily elected him president.
Grangfellow asked that any ideas for ways to catch the thief, the stealer of livelihoods and homes be written and put into a locked box at the front of the building which normally served as a temple to the AllFather.
Juvial had listened with the rest of the audience, clapping, cheering, standing when the others did, all in favor of catching the scoundrel that was himself. He knew he could always stay one step ahead of them if he became a crucial member of the NOMEGM so he wrote a moving and detailed plan that would catch the scoundrel and put it in the locked box as he left the building and walked out under the stars.
He could only hope that the leaders of this fine new Guild would find his idea attractive. He smiled behind his grey beared as he puffed his plain pipe thoughtfully.
