The Jewel of the Great Caliph
In the Autumn some 430 years BP, a magic ring of incredible power was stolen right off the finger of the Great Caliph of the Djinn by a mad Storm Giant named Varram. Varram was no ordinary Storm Giant. He was that rare giant both with cunning and intellect.
The magical ring housed the essence of the most powerful air elemental that ever esisted. Rumors had become the stuff of legends; an artifact so powerful, it could destroy a nation.
The Jewel of the Great Caliph was taken by Varram who, in his mad ramblings to his followers, intimated that the jewel that had once been safeguarded by the Great Caliph was now his, Varram's war engine. Varram was greedy for power. When he discovered the great land known commonly as Autauga, he envisioned using his war engine to create a perfect world. Varram's vision was not his own though many feared the great giant. He would reshape the entire world to meet the wishes of his mysterious benefactor, one he called only The Eye of the Storm.
Varram rubbed his hands together in delight as he pictured the new Autauga, one without humans or other human like creatures. He knew he would fight those in the Tower of Arch Mages, the Seven Tribes Demons, as well as other bands of powerful organizations. To tip the balance in his favor, he created a scheme to make allies of the disparate tribes and strange beings in the Churned Wastes as well as the Frozen Wastes.
The Storm Giant was patient. He bided his time, looking for strife to take advantage of. He saw that an area known only as the Haunted Wood was in upheaval as a warlord from the east marched on the land that nobody else wanted to go near. He sent acolytes to the Haunted Wood in order to sway those who suffered in the Haunted Wood to his cause against their more civilized neighbors. They would point out the mysterious eastern warlord and offer to help the tribal people of the Haunted Wood prevail. In return, all they would have to do is fight alongside his army.
Among his great army, Varram had a great Necromancer. The Necromancer was hated and feared by his army and his followers but Revelle, as she named herself could summon the undead to their aid.
In the Northern most part of the Juniper mountain range, the largest mountain now lay wrapped in an enormously huge storm cloud. That is where Varram holds his council.
The tribesmen of the Haunted Wood were not looking up at the mountains, they had their heads down trying to defeat the eastern warlord. But those in the Juniper Observatory have turned their attention to the northern most mountain, a mountain that seems to have grown larger almost overnight as it is wrapped in the enormous storm cloud. Within the last few weeks, observers there have noted that there are a pair of evil inhuman eyes that peer out from the storm wrapped mountain. The eyes are luminous, changing color from white to red and then black in cycles.
A number of scouts were sent out to discover what evil was taking shape in the north. Out of 28, only 2 returned. Both were near mad by the time they returned. They spoke to the observers of a crazed storm giant with a powerful Necromancer and a Djinn relic that had only been whispered about in legends.
War was brewing, that much was obvious. The Observers began sending missives to locations all over Autauga warning of what was happening and begging for help in the form of information, troops, and knowledge of battle tactics. Autauga had been at peace for a very long time and no wars they had lived through had threatened on such a large scale.
