The Frost Sea

Oceanic currents move in both horizontal and vertical directions. The currents' movements are driven by gravity, the atmospheric currents that are commonly referred to as wind, as well as the density of the water itself. The density of water is dependent on what is in the water; abiotic or non-living chemicals such as salt.   In other words, currents or movement in the world's oceans is driven by wind, gravity, and chemicals. The entire system of oceanic currents is responsible for transferring heat, variations in biodiversity as well as the world's climate system.   The Frost Sea Channel is a strait that lies between two Continents, Autauga and Ravenna. The temperature of the water is so cold that on occasion, there are small islands of ice that float on the surface of this small part of the world's seas. The people of Autauga can see some of the Frost Islands as they call this phenomenon but they cannot see the continent beyond the sea channel. They are responsible for the naming of the Frost Sea. They have no reason to believe that there is anything beyond what they can see from any shoreline on the continent.   Legends in the northeast contend that there is a walkway to another world in the Frost Sea. Old sailors, retired pirates, and the like to tell anyone who would listen that long ago, when the sea warmed up, there appeared a bridge that extended from the shoreline that was nearly a kilometer in width and extended out from the shore to as far as you could see. If you were eager to hear more, they would lower their voices and tell you that a few adventurous explorers decided to walk over the bridge to see what was on the other side. The explorers never returned.   Though the people of Autauga have invented telescopic devices, it is a recent innovation and the devices created to date are rudimentary though exciting to those who have made use of them.   Telescopes will advance in tecnological ways so that soon it is likely that someone will discover that there is another world, or rather a landmass that is part of their own world, and it is called Ravenna.
