The Brood
For all of existence, species that walk in the suns light have been afraid of the dark. The Brood are why. A manifestation of pure terror and power, the Brood have long since been buried deep beneath the continent of Auros, waiting and binding their time. That time has come. The first beings of the Barrow Pit are surfacing from an unknown location and are already learning about and consuming the new land walkers. Long ago the Brood attempted to take over the surface world by blocking out the sun, unconditioned to its harmful rays. They were pushed back beneath the earth by a weapon lost to time and memory.
Now that enough time has passed and the threat of the Brood is now nothing more than myths or fairy tales. They are preparing for their next attack. Auros is a completely different land since the Broods last visit, new species, customs and more importantly weapons of war now exist. The Brood have learned from their mistakes, the large scale war they sieged united the sun species against them, this time, they plan to sow dissent amongst their enemy before attacking them from the shadows.

Biological Traits
The Brood has sub-species that can approximately be divided into one of 5 types. These different types provide a different service for the Brood, these subspecies are.
- Gazi - The Gazi can blend into regular society and look the least like a member of the Brood species. They spend the longest inside someone's brains and use their extra knowledge to gain an insight into the mannerisms and expectations of that species.
- Avela - The Avela are darker in colour than that the other Brood subspecies and have the capability to momentarily turn into a purple smoke in order to pass through tight spaces.
- Menzi - The menzi are the largest and rarest of the 5 subspecies and will seldom enter a battlefield. Their one job is to produce Brood young and do this by shedding mass over time. Each Menzi can only create a limited amount of young depending on their size. They spend the least amount of time developing from the youngling stage.
- Kosan - Kosan would be considered the generals of the Brood species. They are bigger and slower than the Zula with a more imposing presence.
- Zula - The Zula are the warrior class of Brood, they are the most common and will enter the battlefield in the hundreds or potentially thousands.
Genetics and Reproduction
The Brood are a specialised species, their goal is to infest, consume and take over all other species. Just one of the ways they do this through their young infecting a targets brains and consuming the serotonin and preventing the brain's ability to develop more. From the corpse of their victim the young Brood sprout into adulthood taking a new form. This new form will then further serve The Brood purpose of taking over the other species. This process can take as long as it needs to gather as much information about the species as the Brood need. If it is a new species or a significant member of that species, it will take longer than if it is a species the Brood are more familiar with. The subspecies also dictates how long a Brood Young spends inside a person's brain.
