Star Readers
Caso City is considered one of the newer cities in Auros and prides itself on its futuristic technology and progressive thinking. The government does not have mystical advisors and chooses to rely on the much more scientific process of star reading. An entire department is dedicated to the mapping and tracking the influence the stars have on the continent. These Star Readers are highly revered in Caso City and are treated in very high regard by both the government and the general populace, having an entire library and observatory dedicated to their profession.
While the Caso City government sees the process of star reading as a scientific approach to prediction that contrasts those of the Wind Talkers and Roamers of other cities. The Star Readers themselves understand that reading the stars requires just as much spiritual attunement as listening to the wind does. Likewise other prophecy advisors respect and consult the Star Readers and see the practice as an adaptive form from their own, rather than contradictory. Both professions understand that the future is not always clear and that the signs can often be misunderstood or missed completely.
Career
Qualifications
A Star Readers education is varied from the very basic reading of the stars and their names to an education akin to a doctorate. The Governmental Advisory Department however only accepts Star Readers who have had at least 10 years of experience in reading and predicting events to a high accuracy. Those in professions involving star reading such as fortune tellers and teachers of the subject are also required to complete the revalidation process; a yearly review of their skills and expertise providing evidence of modern practices and recent improvement training.
A good Star Reader needs both the specific skills and a good memory in order to read the stars themselves. They also need good personal and communication skills to get their message across is a clear way. Not all futures are bright and a good Star Reader will be able to deliver bad news in such a way that the client will not resent the Star Reader or the organisation they work for.
Career Progression
Those aspiring to be a Star Reader must get a college degree at one of the many colleges in Caso City. After which they can either become a freelance reader or apply to become a member of the Governing Body of Star Readers (GBS). Where they will get extra training and work opportunities advising both the Caso City Council and anyone wealthy enough to pay for their services.
They GBS also arrange free advice for the general public on special days. This gives newer Star Reader experience dealing with people and a chance to prove their skills outside a classroom. Though some Star Readers scoff at this practice, most see it as a public relations activity that helps raise funds for the organisation.
