Speaker of Sonos
Every major city has a Speaker, someone who is tasked to represent their city and ensures that its best interests are represented in any world council meeting. However, only in the last year has there been a Speaker of Sonos, until the latest rule change it was against the Constitutional Law for any member of Kun Sonos to leave the island.
The first and only Speaker of Sonos is Musa Saleh. He introduced the law that allows him to leave the island, and has been campaigning for this change during the last 3 voting cycles. He has been a member of the Council of Nine for 5 years, before this new position his role was to filter and interview foreign applicants to citizenship.
The introduction of a new Speaker to world summits was a surprise for the other nations. This was because although an invitation was always sent to the Island of Sonos, no representative had ever attended this was a landmark occasion and not one welcomed by every member of the world council. Speaker Musa was bombarded with a number of questions and had to prove his identity a number of times to satisfy each Speaker from the other cities. Once formalities were completed and everyone was satisfied that Musa was indeed who they said they were, the first ever 8 person summit began. Now only 1 empty chair remains at the summit, this chair is for the Speaker of The Drear, a chair no one else at the summit wishes to be filled.
Requirements
The Speaker of Sonos must be a 2nd generation citizen of Sonos. Meaning they must have been born on the island, and can not be a recruited citizen. They must also be a voted member of the Council of 9.
Appointment
Musa Saleh is the first to experience the Ritual of Understanding. A process that involves taking hallucinogenic fruit to cause a state of stupor. Once in this state, Musa was buried alive in the dirt of Sonos. This allowed him to commune with Sonos and gain a better understanding of its needs and wants, both as a sentient land, and for its people. This was the condition of the Council of Nine to pass the law. If Musa truly believed it was time for a Speaker of Sonos, then he must risk his life to prove himself worthy. No one could be 100% certain that Musa would survive the ordeal, but such was the risk of the new position.
Responsibilities
The Speaker must represent the very best interest of Kun Sonos, both its people, its council, and the island itself. They must attend the world summit meetings as well as being representatives during diplomatic missions to other cities.
