Nguvu Battle Arena
As stated in his memoirs, one of Nyhuks priorities was to provide an opportunity for his citizens to prove themselves and to rise above their station. This began with the construction of the Nguvu Battle Arena, a huge pit like structure that was to be erected in the old-town district of Nguvu. Losing a battle in the arena would not always mean death, though some fights did end that way. Showing determination and force of will was often enough to keep you alive and be recruited into one of the new training regiments of the Nguvu Army. As long as a combatant showed strength, cunning, and a willingness to never give up, they were seen as having potential.
Any weapon of choice could be used in the arena. The organisers provided basic weapons such as swords or spears, but combatants were encouraged to bring their own. Magic use in the Arena was also something the council could not agree on, some of the council believed it gave people born of magic an unfair advantage over those who had honed their skills over time.
Purpose / Function
The Nguvu Battle Arena would showcase the very best that the city had to offer. A multitude of events would be held throughout the year and all fighting styles were welcome. The Battle Arena did not care how much wealth or status a combatant had, only that they were strong, and willing to fight for the betterment of their city.
A discussion was had on whether to include prisoners of Nguvu in the potential combatants. An argument was made that people should be given an opportunity to fight for their freedom. This discussion was tabled until the building was finished.
The structure would also bring jobs, excitement and opportunity to the people of Nguvu. It would also send a message to other cities about the future of Nguvu and Nyhuks plans going forward. No longer was the city going to sit idly by while the rest of the world flourish and advanced.
