Beimos, God of Crossing

(bay • moe • ss)
Beimos, the God who ferries souls to the Afterlives, is the neutral of neutral forces—a being unmoved by the conflicts of mortals and deities alike. He is a silent sentinel, a guide through the vast, unending expanse of the Astral Sea. To mortals, Beimos is an enigma, a nameless figure glimpsed only in the final moments of life or whispered of by seers and mediums. Neither cruel nor compassionate, Beimos simply is.   Legends speak of the rare souls who have glimpsed his true form: an ageless figure draped in starry, flowing robes, with a visage that shifts between the faces of all who have ever lived. His voice is said to be both a comforting whisper and a chilling echo, the last sound heard before the veil of mortality fully falls. Though Beimos does not seek worship, those who revere him are often mediums, morticians, and seekers of truth—those who stand at the edge of life's fragile boundary.

Origin

Nobody is quite sure when Beimos first appeared, and even if you ask the oldest Gods, they'll say he has always simply been there, an unyielding presence on the edge of existence. Many of his followers ponder whether he emerged from a mortal desire to traverse the Astral Sea to the Afterlives or if the Astral Sea itself was born from his desire for a realm that required a guide. Was he a guardian born from necessity, or the origin of the very paths that connect life, death, and everything beyond? Regardless, Beimos is regarded as a fundamental force—like gravity or the Beat—an ancient constant that has always watched over the threshold between worlds in the Auroraverse. Some claim that his voice echoes within the tides of the Astral Sea, a deep and endless murmur that resonates with the souls of the lost, guiding them to their final rest.

Followers and Church

Typical Alignment: True Neutral

The followers and church of Beimos stand as a somber sanctuary dedicated to ushering souls to the afterlife. With temples resembling serene mausoleums, the church exudes an air of solemnity, its architecture emphasizing the transient nature of mortal life. Devotees gather in these hallowed halls to seek solace, commemorate the departed, and prepare for their inevitable journey to the afterlife.

Champions

Not needing to spread his name or protect his followers, Beimos has never selected a champion, and it is unknown what exactly said champion would be able to do.

Tenant

Impartiality: It is not our job to allow emotion or bias to interfere with our work.

Honor the Dead: Death is not the end of the story, so do not waste time weeping for the dead but appreciate the time you had with them.

Relationships

While all the Gods appreciate Beimos for the role he plays in bringing him their deceased followers, he cares little for them. He is merely interested in doing his job, though he has been known to find amusement in conversations with the God of Death Darux, enjoy the youthful energy of Aedis, and be annoyed at the Gods’ debates over who holds the rights to a deceased soul.
