Glax Buds
Glax Buds are Sunside Plants ranging in size from pebbles to boulders. They are clear, with a whiteish-blue tinted shell, and many are edible.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Glax Buds have an extremely tough transparent outer shield/shell, with small, thick, waxy leaf structures below their shield.
Genetics and Reproduction
To cultivate a Glax bud, you simply have to plant a Glax grain in the ground, and provide it with water. The Glax Bud will grow at a rate unique to its own species.
The most commonly cultivated Glax Bud plant is the Skyx Bud, which grows in a wide range of areas on the Sunside, with a very nutritious grain-like bud in a light blue colour and axehead shape.
Growth Rate & Stages
Every single Glax Bud Species has its own unique growth rate, which has troubled and confused scholars for generations. In general, The faster the growth rate, the more often this species is cultivated.
Ecology and Habitats
Glax Buds live almost exclusively on the Sunside of the planet, and are evolved to utilize the massive amounts of sunlight to their advantage. The glass-like shields of the Glax Bud family is thought to have evolved as a way to block the most harmful aspects of the light from the sun, as well as protecting the plant from herbivores.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Glax Buds survive exclusively on the fertile water found in the Sunside. Their long roots are able to penetrate the deep aquifers found here, and don't rely on water from anywhere else.
Biological Cycle
Glax Buds spread through a process known as tunneling, where the bud grows long root like structures underground, often for distances as short as a few paces, to multiple days' walks away. The tunnel will then sprout a new Glax bud in the new location.
Additional Information
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
The rarest, and most sought after Glax Bud species, is the Midnight Blossom. This Glax Bud only grows during the Gap, meaning it grows a few moments per Ring Cycle (which is very slowly). The Midnight Blossom is the size of a small child's hand, and is deep, blackish-purple in colour, with the characteristic translucent shield. It is said to be able to cure brain rot and other rare diseases.
