Warlocks gain their power from a patron whom they sometimes serve, and sometimes use for their own goals, and often both. There are many different types of patrons found in
Aurelia like Archfey, Celestials, Fiends and otherworldy beings. The Warlock creates a pact with their patron in whatever way the patron desires or requires. On their quest for power they often dabble in powers that they do not understand.
Archfey Patron
Archfey can be convinced their powers with a mortal for in many different ways. Pacts with an archfey are always risky as most archfey are rather playful or have sinister goals. However, not all archfey are whimsical and might recruit someone to further their influence within
Aurelia or in the
Feywild. A well known patron of many warlocks found in the
Kingdom of Elenath is the
Eldertree Queen.
Celestial Patron
Some warlocks draw upon the power of an empyrean, a couatl, a sphinx or an unicorn. These celestial patrons are likely to put some restrictions on their wards on how their powers should be used and may punish any transgresions.
Fiendish Patron
Many different fiends with their own goals or serving an evil deity wish to influence the mortals of
Aurelia. Some of them will lend their powers to mortals to get them to do their bidding.
Great Old One Patron
There are some patrons who are beyond the categorization of the mortals of Aurelia. Knowledge of them is extremely limited and warlocks with such a patron are rare.
