While not everyone directly uses it, the pool of mana we can all use is understandably a rather important part of how one uses magic. We know little of the Atronach system that gives the mana pool meaning, but we do know that due to the system, the mana pool is profoundly important, and even though there are variants, they all obey the same rules.

The Mana Pool is the pool of processed Mana that is usable by a being. It plays a role conjoined with Magical Auras that allows a being to draw in ambient mana, process it into a form usable by them and thusly use it to wield magical abilities. In many ways, it's a core component of magical expression across Atronach, allowing spells and abilities to function.

A Variable Resource

The maximum size of an individual's mana pool depends on a lot of different factors, but they can be summarised to be to do with that individual's development as a magic user; the more skilled and powerful an individual gets at using magic, the larger their mana pool becomes. The pool naturally replenishes itself over time through the processes referenced in the Mana document known as mana attunement.
A key distinction here is that all kinds of mana do feature a mana pool, but only arcane mana requires the mana attunement process; for simplicity, the Atronach system refers to all three pools as a single conjoined mana pool, and reflects the properties of the mana types through spell costs and qualities - generally, for example, divine spells and abilities are very cheap compared to arcane ones, but have a more drawn out casting process.

Mana Pools in the Atronach System

The Atronach system makes extremely strong reference to mana pools, as they serve as the core factor through which a person wields magical abilities such as a spell, magical strike or whatever else. The mana pool itself - known as MP for short - is a function of the level and spellcasting statistics of the character in question, and is drained through casting spells and using magical abilities that cost MP.   There are several distinct variants of the mana pool that function similarly in the Atronach system - such as Chi / Stamina - and even within regular MP-draining abilities there's several distinct styles. These are explained in more detail in the Atronach system article itself.
By contrast, faerie mana pools are the smallest, but have no replenishment time, instantly refilling (but being subject to the fae realm), and thus the actual size is the main limiter of how powerful the spells and abilities can be.   Chi is the biggest differentiator when it comes to magic pool variants, as every creature has Chi, but for 90% of creatures it is simply referred to as Stamina instead. Stamina / Chi otherwise functions very similarly to mana pools, replenishing slowly and so on, but is used for more than just magic; most forms of physical exertion drain it as well.
