If magical traditions are the broad strokes of magical separation, magical schools are a step below that, grouping actual practices of magical processes together with a single overarching theme.
— Chun Li, Peacock Empress
Magical schools are the second broadest collection of magical styles and define more specific groupings of magical disciplines within a broader tradition of magic; they vary considerably between themselves but every magical discipline within a given school is unified in some manner with every other discipline, be that in a loose manner - such as all dragon magic disciplines being related by being developed by dragons first and foremost - or a very tight manner, such as all elemental magic disciplines being related by their shared reliance on elemental understanding and their shared properties of being combinable with one another.

The Problem of Classifications

The most important part of magical schools is simply how broad they are; there's a lot of them, and they are known to be among the most in flux of the categorisation metrics; while the Atronach system doesn't care either way - as mentioned in Magical Traditions - the constantly expanding levels of interaction with magical schools do impact the system's classification metrics; this is perhaps why the Milky Way and Pearalos have such uniform definitions for everything, the Atronach system ends up reinforcing their mindsets and it gets adopted over the entire cosmos.

The Ever-Expanding List

New schools are found fairly regularly generally speaking, almost as often as new disciplines are discovered. As such, detailing each and every school is a fool's errand. Instead, here's a categorised list for your convenience that expands as new schools are added!
