Matisoma

Matisomae are intelligent and enigmagic creatures with the appearance of giant, tentacled eyeballs with a tendency to be paranoid and hostile towards all forms of life besides themselves, but most of all towards dragons.

Basic Information

Anatomy

The central component of a matisoma's body resembles a giant eyeball, with a usually greyish "sclera" and colorful and expressive "iris" and "pupil". However, this "pupil" is actually a multipurpose organ containing chewing teeth for the breaking apart of small objects, and has several magical functions in addition to providing sight. The "eye" of a matisoma is protected by two folding membranes, a transparent inner one and an opaque outer one that can close. This outer membrane is supernaturally durable even more than the rest of a matisoma's body for as long as the creature lives.   A matisoma generally possesses between two and fourteen additional secondary eyes, either in clusters on its body, or on jointed stalks or at the end of short tentacles. These eyes are also magical organs, but not nearly as powerful as its primary eye in effect.   A matisoma also possesses between three and six long tentacles which are primarily used for locomotion and for aiming the primary eye.   Some matisoma even have additional minor limbs ending in sharp scythes or pincers.

Genetics and Reproduction

It is unknown by what process or even if matisomae reproduce, and no immature member of the species has ever been identified.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Matisomae can see invisible as well as in perfect dark as long as their eyes are open. Additionally, they are able to both read minds and speak telepathically. However, they are usuall completely deaf.
