Human

Humans are a species of sapient bipeds of the "humanoid" type. Despite possessing no inherent magical or extraordinary abilities, they have shown to be extremely adaptable and able to thrive in a wider range of conditions than most other sapient species. While individually weak, they tend to band together into large and complex civilizations that gives them a powerful collective strength. Humans run the gamut of personalities; heroes, villains, and cowards alike can be found among them, as can tradesmen and warriors and wizards. An individual may excel at any task but the species as a whole excels only in creating individuals of varied abilities and weaknesses. More than most, they tend to mingle with other sapient races, as their short lifespans of usually less than 100 years can cause old grievances to be easily forgotten in the face of more fresh political and economic rivalries.   Unlike any other intelligent species, humans have no known divine patron to shape their evolution, and this has caused humans to be a subject of significant theocratic debate and even a victim of persecution throughout ancient history as more dogmatic and radical religions see something sinister about the species. By the time of the Veldon Empire, this prejudice had been all but stamped out, but with its collapse and the corresponding weakness of humanity, many evils long thought destroyed threaten to resurface.   Also unlike any other common intelligent species, no human subraces are known to exist. This is viewed as exceptionally bizarre by theocrats, especially in light of their lack of racial patron.
